Messi "best player of all time"

If you'd told me when I was a kid obsessed with Maradona, that I'd be watching a player who is probably better than him live every couple weeks I'd have said you were crazy

If you haven't seen him live then make that trip. This is a great city anyways and its not
hard at all to get tickets.

My mind boggles when I am the only one going as my two mates can't make it and I actually have problems getting people to come along....

funnily enough mate me and a couple of friends went to Madrid a couple of years back and happened to get tickets to athletico vs barca, messi scored the winning goal in which won the league for barca

i'll always have that moment, special player

i saw the reverse of that....ha. Atleti winning the league at Camp Nou a couple seasons back.

also the Atleti stadium and atmosphere was class. saw them vs Sevilla two seasons ago. will have to visit the new one

But can he do it on a cold....

But seriously, until he wins something with a non top 2 side in the world - who’s a favorite in 95% of their matches, he’ll never be the greatest.

So unless he leaves Barca, it’s win with Argentina or bust.

Watch how quickly Barca fall when he retires.

The same way Madrid did when they lost CR7.

I love these random criteria, as though Pele didn't play with Jairzinho, Garrincha, Tostao and all manner of other players who were regarded as among the best in the world. He was the cherry on a very tasty cake, yet is regarded almost universally as the best ever. It's just this rubbish argument that the Argentina and Napoli sides Maradona was in were utterly hopeless and were one man teams that seems to fuel it.

Utter bollox

I tried to think of a more tactful and user friendly way of disagreeing with you... but this was the best way to sum your post up mate. Sorry x

Please find me a player that’s up there as a contender for the greatest that hasn’t played in an amazing team or with amazing players.

It really is crazy. Judging a players ability on results in a team sport just doesn't make sense.

Wasn't it in the final of the Copa America a few years ago when Higuian missed from about a yard out right near the end of the match? Meaning that Lionel Messi would be the greatest player of all time if Gonzalo Higuian wasn't so crap.

That just doesn't make any sense.
