OK, so what I mean is, the character has been thrust into a role for which he’s evidently not suitable, and his potential for gaffs has greatly increased. The way in which he’s going about fulfilling said role leads to those gaffs being made. The Partridge character is almost entirely meant to be funny because he lacks self awareness and his inability to see that and fulfill the role as intended by his bosses is essentially the joke.
 

Once you get your head around the fact it’s the same character developed into a new format, you can appreciate that he’s better than ever. Different setting, ever evolving Partridge. Aha!
