Never been a question of ability. Attitude and application was the difference between his first half and his second. He can be a top player but he has to work for it like he did in the second half today.

Beyond his obvious goal scoring instincts, he was absolutely critical to how we played defensively in the second half. When we kind of morphed into more of a 4-4-2 (really 4-4-1-1), his ability to win duels, hold the ball, and play D was massive. I hated the free kick he gave around the 18, but he was pretty unlucky for it not to be clean.

Think we all wish his first touch was a bit better, but his ideas with the ball are still good. Just loved the work rate today.

Not just that though.

He can only do so much and as a team we didn't attack well in the first half. We also directed much of our play down the left, meaning the right side was mainly just Richarlison tracking back as Alonso had nothing to think about.

In the second half we realised that their left side was the weak point and basically just pushed Rich up, and because Alonso has the defensive nous of a twig, Rich had the run of Chelsea completely.

In recent weeks he seems to have curtailed the cheating aspect of his game and is instead allowing his impressive talent and determination to shine through. Hopefully we can retain him long enough to witness him develop into the genuine world class player he is undoubtably capable of becoming.
