We haven't had a good manager since Moyes period, 2 false dawns from Martinez and Koeman's first seasons are all we have to show for 6 seasons of utter waste

In the past when things have taken a downturn he didn't seem able to address the problems and halt the slide.

The next couple of weeks will show us whether he has learned anything over the last couple of years but I'm not holding my breath.

Better to have coughed up £4m than have some investigation by the PL hanging over us. Clearly we handled our pursuit of MS clumsily but let’s face it this sort of stuff goes on all the time in football when clubs are trying to get in new managers/players. Besides at the time it was rumoured the club were willing to fork out £10m in compo to Watford to fake MS, so drawing a line under this for less than half that is peanuts.

I appreciate your opinion, but Moyes overachieved relative to the resources he had at his disposal. Fair enough we never won a trophy (not many have in the Sky era) but we were a hard honest team who could play a bit. Now we are soft as the proverbial

I can only presume that, like @Deco mentioned, they had evidence that our 'unwarranted approach' when he was manager somehow breached the rules.
