Computer games.

A very long but very critical review of Anthem and modern-day BioWare.
The tl;dr is:
  • None of BioWare's historic success in merging great story and gameplay (like KOTOR, Mass Effect, etc)
  • Its a looter/shooter, and a very bad one compared to others such as Destiny/The Division/etc.
  • Devoid of variation and content
  • Buggy and crammed full of loading screens

To be fair, for every review like this I’ve seen just as many positives.

I think I’m going to try it but maybe wait a little while.

I won’t be shedding any tears to be honest. Their team is fairly different from the minds behind KOTOR, Baldur’s gate, ME1 and DAO. These pseudo rpg clowns need to die

Oh very much so. They attempted to SJW their way to money initially, failed, then have gone for the latest fad with Anthem. They deserve to die.

They lost their artistic integrity long ago.

It's just such a shame, as those games you list are by and large absolute masterpieces.

To me, it's the game they never wanted to make and instead were mandated to make by EA.

I think after Andromeda and this, Bioware will be shut down inside the next two years and become EA's latest high profile victim.

EA has ripped the identity right out of BioWare. Just like what they've done with so many others.

To be fair, for every review like this I’ve seen just as many positives.

'Positive' is a stretch.

Its not a terrible game. There is fun to be had, but its by no means a good game overall. There are others around/coming soon that are much more worth buying and playing.

Anyone who purchases Anthem, Cod, Assasins creed, Battlefront, the crew, You all get what you deserve and then seemingly shaft it to me down the line..Cheers
If we can go all Hollywood on this,This appears to be a very similar business model between the two....ahem...art forms
Your now looking at continual re hashes of great titles of old, With no new ideas or risks, yet also an ever so slight lessening of effort involved by developers for maximum revenue....Costumes, Loot crates, Expressions.....Celebrations????
No story, Not needed.....Just instant gratification that lasts a week....Yaaay.
So for all of you triple AAA day one buyers, I would like to thank you for all for monetising and destroying another promising media....
So whats next for corporations to ruin ??? I can hardly wait.

Most of that post sounds like drunken drivel, but let me just say that not all AAA games are uninspiring, major budget, low risk, content devoid cash cows. The most recent CoD has had a lot of players enjoying the Blackout and zombies modes. Not my cup of tea but it was a decent game.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey though was one of the best games of 2018. Had a rough launch but within a month it had been patched to a very, very good state. I hadn't enjoyed an RPG like I enjoyed that for a long time. It had a huge open world, great setting, good story, choices that mattered, fluid combat you had to master, characters who made an impression, exploration that was encouraged and not skipped, progression that opened up the game and its mechanics at a good pace and enough variation that keeps you interested start to finish.

It does look interesting. Probably a little too slow for me to get on with.

I thought similar before I played it.

If you love survival, exploration games where you craft a lot it's great. The graphics are beautiful and really immerse you in the feeling of being underwater on an alien world.

The plot progresses quicker than you expect it to as well and you can't beat the feeling of dread when you first encounter some of the monsters in the depths.

Drunkan drivel ???
Zezti....in the morning I will be sober, If you think a fully priced game is finally actually working within a month is acceptable...I suggest drinking

Odyssey was 'actually working' at launch. There were some bugs that were patched out and since then it's been nothing but a great game. There are always bugs in games. Some of the greatest games in history still have bugs in them to this day because post-launch patches didn't happen. Having bugs at launch doesn't stop a great game from being great.
In the case of Anthem, its a buggy mess of a game at launch and its not got any redeeming factors if those bugs ever get fixed. That's a fine example of a bad AAA game. Odyssey is a fine example of a good AAA game.

Played the anthem demo. Was a mess that was, never seen so many loading screens.

I'm working today but booked tomorrow off so I'll be smashing some Anthem out and can leave my own review on here for anyone who is bothered.

I hope it's fun

I will be smashing some Anthem tonight. Destiny 1 is my favourite game of all time, I know, and the looter shooter genre is absolutely me so I reckon I will probably enjoy it. It will take a lot for Anthem to be even close to as good as Destiny though and I'm more hopeful of the Division 2 thats coming out soon.

got the Long Journey Home free on a promo. i've heard it has tedious gameplay elements like the mining in Mass Effect but you can select story-mode then it's a short but good game.

anyone played this? worth the time? i loved Mass Effect despite some of the drawn-out gameplay elements.

Quick update on Anthem. Played about 10 minutes and was quite enjoying it, the flying is really cool, proper ironman. But then I crashed into a rock, the game froze and now the whole game is down. Not a good start.
