I sort of called that result against West Ham. I have said Alisson looks to be affected by the chaos around him. His save % has gone from the best in the league (by some distance) to quite a modest return. If he can't snap out of his recent form that will have a serious impact on them. He was almost single handedly keeping them top of the league earlier in the season but that has now gone.
I secondly pointed out the front 3 look tired to me. That looks more the case with each game. Again if they can regain their form and full fitness is to be seen, but they look a long way off it to me. It's a sign of fatigue-mis hitting shots and having the game pas you by.
Finally I noted the famous "12th man" is actually a hindrance to them. It sounds like the moaning and infighting is well continuing. All over social media they are at each others throats. By all accounts the away end was a concotion of anger, nerves and terror with people just yelling at one another and upping the collective pressure. They will not enjoy the ride. They are the spoilt kid at Christmas who is far too spoiled to know what they've got to appreciate it. You know the spoilt little brat everyone hates. Think of them. Then multiply it by thousands for the collective mass of kopitedom.
As a small aside, it will mean they gain very little enjoyment from this run in, and if they mess it up it will be a truly transformative experience for them. You'll see some lads genuinely develop mental health issues on the back of this. The sort of process that generally leads people to end up at the far rights doorstep, so Prevent watch out come May time!
More broadly I had always prophesied of the mid season slump. We've had that now. The question will be, is this something deeper than that. To be fair tot hem, in the autumn they didn't allow a slump to snowball into a crisis. The loss against Red Star was not followed by a couple of league losses for example. However they are back at that point again now, where a defeat could really topple them and send them into a spiral. If Bournemouth were to pull off an unlikely win on Saturday I'm not sure they recover. Thats where they are at now, 1 defeat away from implosion.
The likelihood is they will be ok, defeat Bournemouth/Watford and steady the ship. United will be a very tough task though. I am cautious but I will say, a defeat to Bournemouth will be absolute popcorn. If they were to lose to Bournemouth, United could close the gap to 9 points on them. They could get within 6 if they win at OT. If United end up finishing above them this season, it would be a truly hilarious thing.
