We mock other teams -- like Watford -- who change managers like Italy changes governments. Gets them nowhere. Doing the same will get us nowhere. I've always felt it would take more than one season to get rid of the rancid crap Koeman, Walsh and Allardyce left us with. Silva needs at least another summer window to continue building the squad HE wants.

It definitely will take more than one season. We need to trim down the squad (too many players who contribute nothing) and replace with some quality additions.

Silva isn’t completely without blame but needs to be given a chance to show he can learn and improve. We’ve seen enough promising glimpses earlier in the season (pre-derby defeat) to show he has some good ideas.

Not sure whether anybody else is as confused as I am at the moment. I feel like Sméagol from Lord of the Rings.

The sensible me understands that we need a period of consolidation. That the manager and DoF need time to put their own team/squad together, and allow new players games to get accustomed to the premier league. That we have the nucleus of a decent squad and 3/4 quality additions (plus 15 or so departures) will see us competing at the top level. That up until 7 weeks ago we were, on the whole, very happy with the direction the team and club were taking. That the very last thing we need at the moment is even more disruption, starting over again with new manager and players etc. That realistically, the conditions last night played right into the hands of a shock result, and losing away in the cup to a side from a division below is not that unusual anyway and possibly happens 40/50% of the time.

Then this voice in the back of my head pops up and tells me in no uncertain terms that I'm in denial. That Silva is a clueless coach who has lost the players. That we've been there before with Martinez and the longer he stays the worse it gets.

I really don't know what I want for the best. What I do know is that it's horrible being a blue at the moment and it's eating me from the inside.

Start of the season, yes we were creating chances quite freely. But now (for the last 4 months) we’re lucky if we test the keeper 3 times in a game or even look remotely dangerous

Disagree on timings and on how starkly different the performances were across the timeframe.

For me, the change was probably post-Newcastle actually. The game after the derby. We should've put it to bed well before their late chances made it look like a fair result. And since then we've looked more ponderous and unconfident on the whole. But the weaknesses in defence span the whole season.

For you, four months takes us back to just before the West Ham game. So you think we were creating chances freely against Wolves, Southampton, Bournemouth and Huddersfield. And in the 19 games since then there's been a significant change. The data just don't back that up at all.

All season, the outcome of so many games has been finely balanced and often the result has not been a clear reflection of the pattern of play -- win, lose or draw. To me that's to be expected given where the club is and how long this team has been together. I think Chelsea is a fair comparison. They are seeing the same variability going from Conte to Sarri, just with more points and better outcomes given the level player they have.

How long have we BLATANTLY been bad defensively, we get worse with every passing week. Regressing quickly and will continue with no new signings and no change in management.

Get bielsa if Leeds d9nt go up. Mind you if Leeds dont go up then bielsa won't look like such a good appointment.

Seasons over, what's the point in sacking him now? Play out the season, we're once again not winning anything, also not getting relegated. We'll have games against the RS and City that'll almost certainly end in despair. It's all about setting up for next season now ... Everton aren't we
