Moyes made some great signings for us, but he also had a lot of howlers and quite often he was good on a shoestring but rubbish when he splashed the cash (think Bilyaletdinov, Johnson, Beattie, Van Der Meyde, Koldrup - all of whom were big signings). His imagination knows no limits - when he took over United, his first thought was to sign Fellaini.
Even his infamous "shoestring budget" spending is not what it used to be. You're talking largely about players he signed like Cahill/Arteta who were signed about 15 years ago. Let's have a look at his budget signings for Sunderland - oh, it was mainly everton rejects (Darron Gibson, Oviedo).
