I don't think he will make it here personally, he's seemed too passive every time I've seen him which is frustrating because he is technically very good.

Doesn't mean I wouldn't love it if he did become a first teamer at Everton though, I think its weird some people wouldn't like that just to show they were right a young lad learning his trade.

Always staggered by the posters on here who write off players. He is 21, an England U21 international, a U20 World Cup winner, scored 10 for Nottingham Forest as a 19/20 year old.

At the same age £45m Gylfi was playing in the Championship and PSG wanted Gueye was playing for Lille B.

Meanwhile £27m flop Tosun is given more leeway than £1m 21 year old DCL.

Fairly sure that's not true.

I don’t think he’s got that oomf needed for top-level football unfortunately; has the ability to dominate and dictate games but just doesn’t get involved enough. Should be screaming for the ball.

Would be quite interested to see how he played deeper with more of the ball and all of the play in front of him.

Never, ever a Pirlo type but that sort of idea.

Don't forget Winks is just about to turn 23. Sometimes we write promising players off too early. When they come into the team, expectation and fear is low - then gradually the pressure builds. Also a lot easier to transition into a consistently settled and winning side like Spurs, where they can develop without being expected to be the saviour.

I have no idea whether Dowell will ever push on, but the club seem to think he has a great chance, so let's get behind him whilst he is still one of us.

C’mon didn’t play a single minute in Premier League since Unsworth gave him a game years ago. Didn’t get a game under Koeman or Allardyce. Silva gave him 90 minutes against Rotherham & he was arguably our best player. Then 45 minutes against Southampton when the whole team was poor. You may not rate the lad but anyone who thinks the above constitutes being given a chance is having a laugh!

OK deemed too a greater risk in bigger games because he was bog average in the lesser games. Pre-season he looked poor. 2nd half of his loan with Forest he was poor and fans called for him to be dropped. How long do we give him? He hasn't shown aptitude to battle. Loan is his best chance but I think he is getting close to do or die time.

I would rather that we invest in him with regular loans and try him as a long-term no.10, or maybe rebrand him as a winger or something else if he gets faster and more physical.

I like the idea of Germany or Spain, as it really does help for a young player to go and 'grow up' . Looking at Ozil;s currrent status, and our criticism of Siggy, and then Silva, Hazard who are the best - it looks like the modern no.10 has to be more aggressive and faster now, and Dowell is an old fashioned player at a time where I dont think he can survive like that. I would advise him to work on his pace and strength, and show that he could be a no.10 but also a central midfielder, because i think the modern approach is to find players who are versatile.

Its one of our worst traits as blues fans

You can say similarly good things about Vlasic, Lookman, Davies, DCL, Kenny..Richarlison is also in the same age group.
Beni and Connolly have also had success at England level but maybe they're less successful now.

Would have liked to have seen him on the right hand side of a front 3 where he could cut inside and allow the full back to overlap. I think he is to peripheral to be a number 10 and would be less involved than Sigurdsson and he wouldn't track back as much.

with us not having any money to bring players in, its a wonder why he hasnt given Kieran a good go.

getting him out on loan looks daft now. if we suffer 2 or 3 injuries he would be inline for a shot
There doesn’t seem to be much fight in the present squad, doubt very much if Dowell would bring any of that to the team,
he’s got an abundance of talent, just doesn’t apply himself to getting involved, always on the outside looking in, instead of taking the game by the scruff of the neck and showing he can boss a game. I realise he is still very young and it’s not in his nature to be aggressive but that is what will ultimately hold him back from being a very good player in the premier league, sad but true, it’s all down to Kieran himself, change or fail.

Of course players can always improve later, and there's no need to write Dowell off, but let's not pretend that it's somehow weird to wonder if someone's ever going to break through when they've been in and around the first team squad for years without ever managing to do it.

I've said this before but 15 of the 20 outfield players in the last England squad had made their England debut by 22. Of the 5 that hadn't, 3 of them didn't come from PL academies, and 1 (Michael Keane as it happens) did but was released and worked his way back up. Only Jesse Lingard doesn't fit the criteria. He was trying to break in at the richest club in the world, and even he actually received a senior call up at 22 but didn't get on the pitch and had to wait til he was 23.

If you've not broken through at your club at Dowell's age (and let's be clear, he's not even been getting on the bench) it doesn't look good for you. The stats back that up as well as our own experiences. He may go on to be a great player, but it's looking increasingly likely that he'll have to leave and work his way back up if he's going to do it.

Said this a few times mate. I've seen him play that role for England U21s, and he's more involves simply because where he is playing. He links the play very well. He would need a Niasse type player alongside him though.

If by Niasse type you mean rubbish, he'll be surrounded by them mate. He should thrive.
