The quicker people stop overhyping our players the better. The problem is we are so desperate as a fan base to be part of the “big six” that we big up a player who puts in literally a few games of good performances and start making bold claims like “they’d walk into a top 6 side”. It’s happened with Pickford. It’s happened with Gomes. Sigurdsson. Digne. Richarlison.. it goes on and on. Sigurdsson is probably the biggest offender. A few decent games and his thread on this forum is full of “SEE SEE LAST SEASON WASN’T HIS FAULT”. So an entire season’s worth of performances means nothing but a few games of note cements him as a top level player? Fantastic logic. I mean he only failed at the team who walloped us today, but he’s for sure a big six player.. SMH.

Until we actually accomplish something tangible the expectation levels need to be grounded in reality. We have a playing squad that has accomplished nothing and a manager a few months into the job who has convinced nobody. We crave being part of the elite but somehow expect us to be a part of it overnight. It’s ludicrous. We’re miles off and it’s just ridiculous that only after results like today’s do people realise it.

You are so right. Not one of those players we brought in during the summer would get into the any of the teams in the top 6. The classic example is people really rating Walcott. He literally couldn't get a game for Arsenal but starts every week for us. Shows the difference in expectations/ambition of the top sides and us.

And we are worse off points wise than we are compared to this time last season. Richarlson yet to score against the top 6, Digne is good going forward but questions are there going backwards. Bernard? Not suited to our game too fast this league, Mina still not sold on him he reminds me of Sahko when he played for RS(erratic).

If we'd have put Newcastle and Watford to the sword I could just put this game down to one of them freak results. But Watford outclassed us, and newscastle were barely troubled. The next 3 games are massive if the optimism isn't about to totally drain away

Agreed on that. I'm not advocating conceding 6 but it's a refreshing change to see us go punch for punch.

Said to everyone I didn't fancy us today,(which is a first as I normally think we will win) we have been tactically found out weeks ago.
Worrying thing about it is we are doing nothing about it when it goes wrong,
today that ball to split the centre Half's we got caught time and time again from the first minute to the last.
No tactical change.
I wasn't a fan of giving this fella the job in the first place , don't know what he had done to get a job like ours, but I would give him a chance , getting worried about him being to one dimensional now, hope he proves me wrong in the long run , but it's looking like a bright start followed by a drop in form, from his team's.
That today was a discrace, he was taught a lesson, by a far better manager today.

Trying to me meet fire with fire when you know the opposing team has the better players? Some may call that optimism. I would call it tactical naievety and stupidity. Nothing wrong with a bit of pragmatism- we showed it at Stamford Bridge already this year. Are we too proud to do the same at home? 2-6 doesn’t reflect well on anybody, no matter what positive spin you attempt to put on it.
