I mean Shane Long is gash but I get the principle.

Myself (a few months back) and @MarcelsGoat have both mentioned someone like Seb Haller. Now, neither of us are going to have one iota of impact in terms of what Brands wants, but when you get posters banging on about that we should sign X player or Y player without adding any context of what style of player we may need, for example, then it just gets a bit frustrating.

So because we need such a particular player (basically someone who has the physicality of Richarlison but also that natural poachers' instinct) then it's easy to tell that it's going to be a difficult task in January. Again, I say difficult but not impossible. People just need to realise the task though.

I just don’t know if Haller is quick enough for what we need.

Yes, agree there, although he does alright at Frankfurt because he plays in a proper front three, with players buzzing about him.

Just shows how difficult it is.

Your boy Wesley looks the ideal type, but there's no guarantee that he'd do well. Because the only strikers that guarantee success are all at the best clubs.

Yeh I think Haller is a better allround player than Wesley but Wesley looks quicker and possibly cheaper. Then again - work permits.

To be fair last season we went to the "big 6" and totally rolled over. Arsenal, Spurs, United make us look a joke. We do look a different prospect but decision making at crutial times and putting good chances away have cost us.

Only seen him a few times in the champions league, but I'm all for adding to our British name sounding Brazilian contingent. He looks an absolute unit but how is he actually on the ball? Trampoline shins upfront have given me PTSD in recent years.

I've seen him play twice so don't really know enough to judge.

Decent enough from what I saw but...

Augustin from Leipzig is a strange link to me, he doesn't seem like the type of CF I thought we'd go for and he doesn't score a bucketload of goals HOWEVER....

This one move may have sold me on him...

AHEM back to Marco....

Not really.

If we finish 15th it'll have been a poor season - obviously - but I don't think he'd get sacked. And I'd be glad, because we're trying to build something.

I don't see us finishing outside of the top half, but regardless of position this season is about moving forward and it's quite clear we've done that in terms of the level of player we're bringing in and the football we're playing.

If he gets 15th with this squad he deserves to be sacked. Fat Sam got 8th and was sacked.

With this money being spent and wages all that, we really must finish above the like in Wolves and West Ham. West Ham got a new manager too Wolves are a newly promoted side.

Btw pal I am not anti Silva I want him to succeed here at Everton. I do believe 7th this season is fair expectation and not a big ask.

We dont choose, we are chosen and I dont mean Everton fans, I mean football fans, I mean some fans do pick their team, im almost certain I wouldnt pick Everton.

But yeah, modern football is a joke, its about money, money, money, its about making money, spending money, charging the fans to make money and of course winning trophies, yes you guessed it, to make money. But still I love it, well not it, but football, the footy is just great, what else you gonna do? We cant turn off supporting Everton, my God I wish I could.

Spot on, everything. A lot on here are talking about Europa not being that high on the list for footballers. I still think this is just a British thing, they all turn their noses up at because of this weird sensation that it derails a season. It really doesn't, I mean it hasn't derailed burnley's season, they didn't even qualify for the bloody thing! They're just a poor team who overachieved last season. Arsenal and Chelsea pick players who never make their prem 18 so that has no effect either.

But UEFA have totally wrecked that trophy. It's all about money as you say, it became a joke when they kept changing it to mirror the champs league and then stupidly decided to get teams down from there. The whole reason Europe is so dull now is because we have the same teams every year. Look at the CL line - up coming up, the 8 seeded teams are pretty much the game every year, that's not exciting. What was exciting before is seeing two top teams drawn against eachother who hadn't met for a decade. The unpredictability of it all was what was good, that's what the fans want, but the authorities just want to keep a status quo and that's dull. Football is different to other sports because of how many clubs and countries play it.

For all the peeps sayin, "but we made loads of chances at the Etihad, Analfield and Old Trafford etc!" It's all irrelevant to me cos we don't convert them enough because none of our offensive players are superb finishers I'm afraid. I'd love to see a poacher ghosting into the box once in a while you know. Also there is not enough aggression in the final third. We needed someone charging through or holding the ball up for others to run onto. Yes we play pretty football and at times it is a delight to watch sometimes. However we don't have the pulling power or these behemoth clubs to attract players who are the finished articles yet. Instead we pay huge amounts of dough on prospects or unfulfilled has beens. To win consistently in this league you need proper cojones, to die for the cause, for your team. You need to get nasty, play dirty and thrill all at the same time. There's a reason we never beat the top four teams anymore and it's all in the above. Bring back the snide and somehow go get a top finisher with top movement. This would help a hell of a lot. We need players who can mix it in the box and not be afraid to convert crosses. I saw the huge gulf between us an City but I ain't ashamed. We just need to adapt like we used to. Yes by all means play the pretty tippy tappy around the back but please be able to quickly transist into attack and take your opposition by surprise. Make sure your crosses beat the first man and land in those danger areas. Know how to play it long and be first to your ball. Get the ref working for you. Let him know when players are trying to clip you. Win that foul and fall. I want Sky to hate us. We are getting found out at the moment too easily. Top teams know how to manage us to the point they make us feel like we played well even when we lose! It can be one dimensional I'm afraid. Look we are doing okay you know but there will come a time to mix it up. I want Marco to introduce these qualities into Everton over the next few seasons. I hope he can do it. I don't want to remain the whipping boy for the big clubs anymore.

I would say that it would depend on where we DO finish if not 7th. We finish 15th he deserves to get sacked.

The only way he survives a 15th place finish is if we have a good cup r...wait a minute. 2 X SF's didn't save Martinez from an 11th place finish. Yeah, he has to win a cup to survive 15th place

Sam didn't get sacked because we finished 8th. Sam got sacked because he was a dinosaur who would set the club even further back in the long run.

Silva isn't, and my point is that the club will view a short-term set-back with the perspective that we are attempting to build something sustainable moving forward.

Again, Martinez wasn't sacked because of the league placing, as such.

He was sacked because it was two-successive bottom-half finishes, maybe, but in the main it was because his style of football had been figured out and he showed no signs that he could change his ways.
