The Derby

I’m not gonna pretend that if we lose that I won’t be devastated but let’s be honest this one’s a freebie. If we were playing any other team in 2nd place and still unbeaten we’d be saying we’ll probs lose.

That said if we win, just enjoy the derby winning feeling and enjoy Klopp’s head falling off .

The last 3 Merseyside Derbies from last season:

Anfield 1-1 D
Anfield 1-2 L (FA Cup)
Goodison 0-0 D

People crapping themselves need to chill out and just look forward to it. They haven't been at their best in a derby match since Martinez/ Koeman were around and you would say they look weaker going forward this season whereas out the two sides you would say we look the better improved on last year.

If we lose we lose we are used to it.

If we draw its another point on the board and their fans moaning

If we win sit back and enjoy the meltdown of their unbeaten streak and title challenge ended at Anfield by their plucky rivals.

Will take a draw like. every time we go into into the derby in good form they just bum as anyway so can't really look forward to it

Have a feeling well win though

We usually manage to convince ourselves that it has to change some time, that we actually have a decent team, that they ain’t all that, then we get there and in too many recent seasons simply freeze when it come time to show up. Or, our management have written the game off and gone with a side looking for no more than damage limitation or we have changed formation for the first time. Or, we are missing key players. Is it Coleman hasn’t played there in five years or something like that?

Like most of us, I’m more than fed up of it, accepting the excuse of‘Everton That’, but most criminal of all, not even having a go. Aside from the Cup game in January when Lookman and a few of the younger lads showed no fear, we have never looked like winning...and that includes when we were leading after Distin and Beckford scored.

If....we are to break the current and long standing embarrassment that has become our usual Anfield fate we have to go with a different mentality. Perhaps it’s in this current team, I hope so, they’ve shown more under Silva in his short tenure than we’ve shown in many a year. Scoring first is something we haven’t done enough of in these games. Do that...and we go from there. I’ll be at the game - hoping rather than expecting - because its done me too many times in the past. I hope it’s this Sunday, it’s not like we haven’t waited long enough is it? COYB.

Free hit this. All the pressure's on them. They'll be huge favourites and they absolutely cannot afford to drop points if they want to remain in the title race.

We've won our winnable home games going into it, avoiding all banana-skins, with a bonus point at Chelsea and taken all the pressure off ourselves.

If we lose, I'm ok with it, as they're a very good side and we'll still have a truck load of positives going forward. If we get anything, it's an absolute bonus and derails their title push.

Ideal build up to a derby really, in many ways.
Yeah, I'm with you in this.

Liverpool will see anything but a win as losing ground on City, so the pressure is very much on them. They are also under pressure in the champions league so won't be able to rest any players for Wednesdays match. And that gives them just 2 days to prepare for the game against us.

We'll be going into the game with nothing to lose. Apart from our own players and some of the more optimistic fans, nobody is expecting us to take anything out of the game. Merson's and Lawrenson's predictions are guaranteed to be 2 or 3 nil to the RS. Of our expected starters, only Coleman and possibly Gueye will carry any underdog mentality into the game, and, fingers crossed, it's the first time in memory we are going into a derby with all our key players fit and available. We also have all week to work on our preparations for the game.

Whilst we'll all be gutted if we lose, our fans also accept that this is a transitional period under Silva and most will give him some leeway because we are happy with what he has done so far. He's earned himself some time effectively. We do expect Everton to turn up and challenge though, much in the same way we did at Arsenal, United and Chelsea. Poor refereeing and finishing cost us in those games and if we put in a similar performance at the pit next week then most fans will accept that. Anything on top will be a bonus, albeit a very welcome one.

Liverpool are a top side. They probably have their best squad since the 80s and have only dropped points this season to City, Chelsea and Arsenal. But we also have our best team for 30 years, and at this moment are playing better away from home where we are able to use our pace to more effect. Defensively we are far better too having conceded just 4 in our last 7. Given the conflicting preparations both teams will have leading up to the game I actually believe this is the best chance we've had in years of going to the pit and getting a result.

I'm predicting that we won't lose. Anything better is just dreamland.:)
