The next measure for Silva will come in January. How ambitious/ruthless is he?

I don't think that can be a fair measure as we have the poison pill signings from Walsh/Koeman/Allardyce to work through the system which is going to take 2-3 years at least.

Sure he'd love to wave off Bolasie/Schneiderlin/Williams from the wage bill but that isn't going to happen.

That’s not his department. That’s for Brands to do & given Brands performance so far, I have every confidence he’ll deliver. Williams is on a season long loan which will see his contact out. He’s gone. Schneiderlin probably wants away & has value. Bolasie & Mirallas are the two that could prove problematic, but I don’t believe that will prevent us from bringing in 2-3 players in jan, should the right ones be available (either loan or permanent).

My question is : we now have 14-16 players who appear to be fighting for the cause & performing to the best of their ability, how “loyal” will he be to them?
Ultimate winners are never satisfied. They never stop looking for improvements.

Bolasie is the big problem.
I think we will find suitors for the others.

Unreal how much over priced dross we bought.

So pleased to see Keane playing well though as he is a really good lad.

Isn't he out of contract at the end of the season anyway?

The way we played yesterday was like a top team, and by that I mean a Man City or Spurs when they face one of the more limited premiership sides.
It was wave after wave of attack and pressure, playing nice quick stuff and working it into dangerous areas constantly. Our finishing wasn’t always great and sometimes the final ball was a little off, but if you watch City they are the same on some days, constantly pressuring and outplaying the opposition but still only taking two or three of the many opportunities they create. Brighton weren’t ever really able to get on the ball for any sustained period as a blue wave kept crashing back at them. At the end when it was was 3-1 we were knocking it about with swagger and even then still probing, in complete control to the point of demoralising Brighton - something we haven’t done for years and looking every inch a top side.
One thing I did note in the stadium was that once Brighton equalised, despite how dominant we had been and continued to be, there was apprehension around the stadium and things quietened down. I don’t blame the fans for this as we haven’t shown consistently yet that we can outclass teams over 90 minutes the way the top 4 do, so there is rightly still a bit of an ‘Everton, that’ feeling that we will somehow mess it up!
Provided we keep turning in performances like yesterday however this will soon disappear as we will have faith that even when the opposition do manage to nick something, we have enough quality to play ourselves back into the game - and with Cardiff, Newcastle and Watford coming up, it’s a great opportunity to build that confidence and demonstrate we are a cut above everyone else outside the top 6. If we do that, I can imagine goodison roaring during every attack and willing the team forward, with the ghosts of last year well and truly expelled.
Credit to Marco Silva for getting the team playing like that yesterday, there’s no doubt in my mind the previous two managers would never have managed to get Everton playing like that no matter how long they had. Yesterday felt like the first time it all came together for him, let’s just hope the team kick on now.

Let's not get too carried away. Seems like we can only ever be amazing or crap. There is a full range of good/bad in between, you know?

We are making the right moves, but we will only know where we are when we get to the business end of the season

Aye, and as I said, this team hasn’t shown they can play like that well consistently yet. What they did show yesterday is that they’d are capable of it though - constant pressure, quick play, working the ball into dangerous areas. The challenge now is to do that consistently and the next three home games are a big test in that respect.
It’s the style of the win that excited yesterday though, it was ruthless, professional and you could see the confidence in the team - I’d say it’s different to anything we saw under Koeman or Allardyce who even at their best seemed more functional than fluid.

Pep's team plays good football in the hardest way.
So he bought players who can play in his system.
Silva should be able to do the same. :bye:

City have had 10 years of trying to get it right - Silva has had one window. From what he says, he was satisfied with it as well. All the players we've signed have been quoted saying Silva spoke to them personally and it helped convince them. He wants to play with attacking full backs, he got Digne - and called him telling him how he wanted to play and where he would fit in. He wanted a box to box, ball playing midfielder and he got Gomes. He wanted to play with pace on the break, he got Bernard who said he was excited to work with him and Richarlison who describes him as a father to him. To me these are Silva's players.

What will be interesting is if the loan players keep impressing, whether or not the money is there to make them permanent.
