Sound and thanks for the considered response and context.
Yeah, its been a loooong time.
I'd just be coming from a bit of a different place, and thus view Silva differently.

Years of frustration over not being able to progress further under Moyes.
Rather than getting in world class forwards it was more about whether Baines would go to United, and the like.
We had the base from which to mount a proper challenge. To be the Blues again.

And while Martinez's first season was heady times, by the end, it only sought to confirm that at the core nothing had changed.
Despite intentions, subsequent manifestations - the same.
If anything, we'd lost a bit of heart and fight on the pitch - the identity of what the Blues are, was withering away.
(I've no doubt that some of this was re-channeled into the EITC)

If anything was learnt from the Koeman era it is you can't try and transplant something else
certainly not that quickly and certainly not without the right players coming in and out at the right time.
What should be done is one question.

Another is what the club is about.
I find it intolerable after all this time that we want things to change while we have a mid table mentality.
Nothing sickens me more than - we played well against Arsenal, we just didn't take our chances; we were away to United, we did ok; we got a draw against the RS, we weren't beaten; well at least it wasn't a drubbing; over and over again.
When we beat City that time, it was like I'm not sure how to feel - this to me has become uniquely Everton.
And for sure, the players have a sense of all this.

The club should be about winning titles, beating the best, genuinely competing in Europe - with its identity in tact - on the pitch nothing else matters.

With the owner and Brands we've made strides.
And not since Martinez first season are we finally playing attacking football again - COYB
But as yet, Silva has proved nothing.
There is a very good reason why we, as fans, have a mid table mentality. It's because for the last 4 seasons the club have been mid table, and the gap between us and the top 6 has grown. Last season in particular, our performances against the top 6 were consumed by fear, even at home. We went into all the games with zero ambition of taking 3 points. So yes, to see us go to Old Trafford and The Emirates with clear intent was good to see. Our performances, whilst not outstanding, still deserved more than we got out of the 2 games, and the fact that we were on the receiving end of very poor referring decisions in both games does leave one with the feeling of what might have been. Yes it's frustrating that we lost both games, but is it so wrong that a lot of us can take some satisfaction from the way we played?

You also said in a previous post that you have nothing against Silva, but if you think he's proved nothing so far I can only assume that you do. The style of football we're playing (and which you yourself have applauded above) is a million miles from where we were last year. Is this not down to Silva. Also he has shown that, whilst the fans may still harbour mid table mentality, he clearly doesn't. He has set up to take all points away to top 6 teams, maintained attacking capabilities when going down to 10 men, and makes positive substitutions to win games rather than be content with draws. He has overseen dramatic upturn in form in a few of our players, most notably Keane and Siggy. And, as I've already said, he's a big enough name to attract some top players to the club (their own words not mine).

I don't know what else you expected from him in the short time he's been here.

I am over the moon with Silva.

I thought he was a very good appointment and virtually everything I have seen since makes me think he's even better what I originally thought.

The change he has made at this club in such a short period of time, whether that's in the players he's improved, the quality of the playing staff, the mentality we now take into games, the good football we play, the general postive atmosphere around the place it's nothing short of remarkable in my opinion.

I love the fella......it's now a very exciting time to be an Evertonian all down to him, Brands and Moshri as far as I am concerned.

I mean, we've got people calling for Bernard to be dropped in this thread.........Bernard who is absolute quality and is a million miles away from Bolaise on the wing last year.

Bernard and Richardson should be in the team every week as far as I am concerned. We just need to give them time, let Silva get a bit of consistency into selections and we'll go from strength to strength.

Practically all of your posts are negative to the extreme mate. Now I understand that it's good to have a different point of view to balance the argument, but you must watch a football match purely to pick out all the negativities. I'm surprised you bother to watch football at all because there can't be any enjoyment in it for you.

Well that's a bold statement.

In response 1 by 1:
Mid table mentality has been there a lot longer than 4 seasons.

Going to ManU and Arse with clear intent should be a given.

This constant-we deserved more, we were unlucky, our performance was much better than what we got, we got robbed by the ref, what might have been - is exactly mid table mentality. Each side we played against could also had pretty much say the same thing. The best side we've beat, Leicester, would normally have put one of the counters away and the game would have been different; ManU should have scored more. etc etc.

Yes it's frustrating that we lost both games, but is it so wrong that a lot of us can take some satisfaction from the way we played?
Sure we should.
But this conversation was about what Silva has proved. And that is something entirely different.
Getting a team to play more attacking football in itself doesn't prove anything.
Four poignant examples are Martinez, the two goal lead squandered at Bournemouth, the performance at West Ham and the Arsenal match.
While we have created more chances we still have a winger running round thinking his sole responsibility is to press and get in behind and shoot.

I'm not as optimistic as you are, not until we start beating the top sides.
I can see good things happening, and things of concern as well.
I'm enjoying the change
but at the end of the day Silva needs to be judge on results.

This is not the same as saying I have a problem with him.

Excellent post. Well done you for showing such positivity. A rare golden nugget on this forum.

That was a really good post until the last line. How can he be expected to prove something when he's only been here for 5 minutes ?

He is our best hope of making the strides forward which are necessary to put those days of frustration that you mention behind us. Surely we don't have to wait until he has 'proved something' to support what he is trying to do ?

Personally I think this is the best opportunity we've had for ages to make proper strides forward. Not pretend ones like we had under Martinez, when it all quickly unravelled and then went backwards at a rate of knots which continued under his successors.

We must get behind this guy and give him the chance to see if his methods succeed, otherwise we will have even more years of frustration ahead of us.

I was just wondering about Niasse. Silva had him at Hull and really made the most of his 'talents'. Is it inconceivable that we will see something from Niasse this season, or are the forwards at Everton so far ahead in terms of skill and ability that he won't get a sniff like he did at Hull were he really was worth a desperate punt?

Either way, still need a forward with an eye for a goal sooner rather than later.

Hull didn’t have anything better. We do.
