Given how much has been spent, we should be 6-7. Look at Burnley last season, with a squad worth a fraction of what ours is!
Squad value has nothing to do with it though. Burnley have a tried and tested system over a number of seasons that suits them and their players all fit into it and compliment each other when playing. We have a collection of players(like our midfield) who can't really play together and don't compliment each other. We have had 4 managers in a short space of time all of whom play a different way so we don't really have a proper system as yet, 2 of our summer signings hav'nt even played yet. Marco Silva was not my first choice as manager but you have got to give the guy some time to try and put his ideas across to the players.

Yes lets pretend everything is ok and we are headed in the right direction.

I see more positives from his first 5 games than I did in the whole of Allardyces tenure. His plan is to attack and be more proactive (total opposite to BFS).

His plan will not be successful with our current defence.

Of all his signings we have only has 3 on the pitch at the same time (IIRC). For example Digne, Bernard and Zouma and if we are honest enough they have been some of our positives. Richarlison has been a major positive. We have 2 more of his signings to join the team yet. This is going to be a bumpy road but I believe we are going in the right direction. He has had one transfer window so in January he and Brands will look at the situation and react upon it. I have the faith and even though I do not like excuses I believe we had plenty against West Ham. Coleman, Mina, Gomez, Richarlison, Jags, Keane all unavailable.

Time is needed for his players to come in and bed in. Look at it as a transitional season and hope that we are seeing progress when his players are up and running and he still needs time to fully assess what he has and who are not good enough. Silva and Brands given a season or 2 will strengthen this team slowly but surely........but 5 games is too early far too early to make a judgement.

Maybe some should see if they still have paint left in the spray cans that they used on Howard Kendalls home and act like a tit

All I will say is our most successful managers of recent times (i.e. nearly 40 years!) have been Kendall, Royle and Moyes.

With all due respect at the time of their hiring they were all classed as highly unambitious appointments.

The ambitious appointments we have made in that time, and I wont bother to list them here, have all ultimately been shown the door ignominiously.

Dont really care anymore. Silva's just another in a long line of managers not good enough to take us to where we want to be.

Only way things will change is if the owner offers daft wages and a big transfer/ wage kitty to either an established top manager (ancelotti, Conte, Mancini, Blanc) or to a well known up and coming manager (Nangellsman, Jardim,) etc.

Offer them all the money you want they won’t come
Look how long it took City to get Pep
Look how long it took FSG to get the dentists pension fund
We need to get to CL qualification to get the Big managers in or hope Silva does for us what Poch done for Spurs
But judging after 5 games with 5 players missing is not really the way to go

You can't have it both ways mate. We either play a more attacking brand of football or we stay as a pragmatic side. Everyone seems to want the former and I'm in the same boat, but it means taking more risks and there's a learning curve there. Same happened under Martinez. It will take time. Pointless moaning about it in the short term.

Agreed. So we finish 12th this season instead of 7th. I'm confident if we stick with Silva and back him in a couple more transfer windows we'll be able to challenge the top 6 next season.

I read an interview with Try Deeney where he gives huge credit to Silva. He reckons he is the best coach he ever worked with (which I thought was a bit weird to say) and that he puts his own dip in form last season to Silva leaving. Perhaps is part of a Watford PR plan to say how disruptive the "tapping up" was.

Whatever it is he seems to have a great rapport with his players which can only be a good thing.

We dont have city or Chelseas money mate our only hope is to pay big for a manager like Liverpool did with Klopp.

Look at how he's transformed them- can you honestly see Silva taking us to CL finals, being title contenders etc when we cant even keep a clean sheet or beat bottom 3 sides at home.

He like Koeman were signed based on half decent showings at mid table sides and both aint good enough and we are seeing that now and when we were without Rom and Ross.

It’s the signing of Brands and the players he gets for Silva that will determine Silvas fate
So far all of his signings look good and more importantly were bought or borrowed with a long term plan in mind
Their ages and positions they play gives me the impression he knows what we need and the right way to go about getting the right players

Poch came from a mid table side as well
Give Silva at least this season and half of next to judge
We can’t keep sacking managers , it has been shown to be a fruitless exercise

And Klopp signed 9 of the 11 players that started against Spurs
Only Milner from the first team squad that twas there when he arrived , started last Saturday
TAA came from the youths
If you are citing Klopp as an example at least give Silva the same opportunity to sign his own team as Klopp did
Look at the money Klopp spent and wasted a lot of it to get where he is today
Take out the Couthino sale and he has spent the guts of 250m net
