Everton not mentioned in this report but interesting nevertheless for the conversation on capacity.
But if you have sold the ticket then you must have a seat for the purchaser
If we have a projection for 50,000 season tickets sold then the stadium capacity will have to be that plus away allocation plus hospitality at a minimum , and that’s not allowing for walk ups or foreign sales
I don’t think clubs are that interested in the difference between seats sold and seats filled on the day
You will always get people who can’t or don’t turn up on the day for various reasons

It's obvious what the implications for a new stadium build are if that trend continues.

The trouble come when you get what has happened with City. Businesses, rather than pay the corporate prices, bought blocks of season tickets seats to give to clients. That causes a few issues, one being that its easier to fill them for teh big games... and there's no familiarity for the smaller games. All has an affect on atmosphere. Hopefully, as Goodison will fit inside BMD, then they simply transpose the ST to the equivalent seat, then give us an option to change. That way corporate blocks wont be bought and disrupt the fans that have been sitting together for years. WIl also ensure that the seats closest to the pitch will be more than likely filled for every fixture.

I don’t it is Dave
If the club are confident they can sell 55,000/60,000/61,878 tickets for the majority of games and they can
A) Afford to build it
B) Can fit it on site
Then they would be mad not to
They will build what the deem necessary within the three criteria of sales , affordability , site constraints

The club have been underlining all along the need for a great atmosphere. Everyone in football knows that gate receipts are important but not THE most important consideration. If you add in this data today concerning the affect of corporates and freebies that all new stadiums tend to get caught up in you dont have to be a genius to see how the club prefer 50,000.

The atmosphere from a full 55,000 seater stadium should in theory be better than that of a full 50,000 seater stadium
As I said the club will more than likely look at the criteria of sales cost and site restrictions before deciding on capacity
Contrary to popular belief the club will employ experts in their field to advise them on all these issues and not do the workings on an A4 pad

500m for an additional 10,000 seats, no thanks. If its 60,000 there no way anyone can guarantee an additional 20,000 fans will come.
the waiting list last time i asked was 7000 in 2017. bear in mind a lot of these people on the waiting list get tickets anyway through everton membership, so that isnt really the same as 39500 and an additional 7000 waiting.
On top of that a few fans buy a season ticket and then sell the tickets to united, chelsea, city on stubhub. Decent seats for 2 adults on there cost about £120 each

I don't think there is any chance of it being north of 55k at the absolute most.

It isn't "ideal" in that sense, but if it was a choice between a 55k new stadium getting completed and a 60k + design left as a relic in Dan Meis' office, then I know what I would settle for. 50k would obviously be more of a disappointment, but 100% of nothing is still nothing.

If it's penny pinching to get it done at BMD, so be it, but I would hope what is saved on capacity could at least go back in to some degree towards giving us some unique and innovative design features.

Finance is not really your thing is it

It all depends on how much the club have to sell the tickets for. If it is economically viable to be able to sell the extra seats you have tacked to the top of stands as a new lower price category I'm sure they will be snapped up. After a few years as the debt decreases and becomes ever more manageable those seats that you have added start to become more and more beneficial as an income stream.

If you have a stadium that you are going to struggle to be able to expand like this one you have to take that into consideration. For instance had the club added a second tier (+5k) to the park end, the 3 or so million it would have cost at the time would have generated at least 44 million by now (not including food/drink/programme sales) even if we use lowball estimates.

So at the end of the day it will be how much does 55k cost over a 50k or a 60k over a 55k etc. and what price you would have to sell those tickets at to pay back the cost of extending it in the first place over x amount of years.

I doubt unless we really struggle to get funding it will be as low as 50k.
