Jose Mourinho is boss

Looks like the game has moved on from Mourinho's sit back park the bus and counter tactics, how many of the top teams in Europe play that style besides Simeone at Atletico who been lucky enough to stay at the same club with the same core of players who are drilled into that style of play, plus another factor is he has a strong charisma that the players will sweat blood for him.

With Mourinho he bounces from club to club, the 1st year the players are on board then the 2nd year it starts to unravel and the 3rd season it implodes as the players seem bored of the dour football/tactics and Mourinho's standoffish paranoid nature.

All the top managers in Europe right now are playing a expansive pressing game with sweeper keepers, high lines and counter pressing high up the pitch.

Mourinho isn't one to adapt and is looking out dated and stale,Wenger had a similar problem as the game left him behind years ago and he was to stubborn to adapt away from his pure possession game.

2014 still hurting you? Klopp dreams about winning even one of Jose’s many trophies. If he asked nicely I’m sure Jose would let him hold one just to see what it was like.

Just been reading on the game on Reddit (Didn't see the game as I'm working).

Jose tried to go with a pressing style of game and his players not drilled for that sort of football were knackered in the 2nd half and Spurs picked them off.

Just like i wrote earlier in this thread,Jose's a dinosaur in this new era, laughable how's he setting up his teams for that style now when his players are programmed for his park the bus tactics,it will takes months and lots of drilling to play a pressing style.

None of his players not knowing the triggers when to press was always going to be ugly especially against a high aggressive team as Spurs.

City Spurs Chelsea and RS all play that modern pressing style and United are miles behind them right now.

I've heard Simply Red are making a comeback, bringing a best of album out too

1: Totenham got me started
2: Holding back the tears
3: If you don't bore me by now
4: Fearground
5: Man-ure babies
6: Mourinho's too [Poor language removed](to mention)

Tread careful ground matey JOSE was the prince that promised our lord of light that saved us from bellends across the park from winning a title and ironically helped you guys seal it. The north remembers

I think we will finish above united this season. Their defense is worse than ours which is really saying something. We are more cohesive as an attacking unit and we don't have any Europe to contend with. I'd be amazed if mourinho is still there for the January window, I just can't see them trusting him with more money to spend. It's unreal the isolation of martial and rashford that's going on there. They are two of the best young talents in the world and he's marginalised them both.

Imagine if it was mourinho who had inherited Kane at 19 when he broke through. Guarantee he wouldn't be what he is today. He's just not a man Utd coach for me, he fails to nurture talent, spends vast quantities of money on players he chooses and then when he doesn't get performance out of them he complains about not being backed. It's bloody marvellous to watch it unfold though!

Say what you want about him being a dinosaur etc. But he asked the club for a defender and it looks as though he was exactly right. Think Neville called it right, whatever happens and whoever is in charge they need new centre backs, so why didn't they go out and get them?

Yes Jose wasted the cash on a few of the current ones but we understand that more than most that it is easily done. The club should have been pushing to raise some money from the sale of Jones/Smalling and brought in who he wanted. Simples. It appears Mourinho is not a coach who will improve players, you would think utd would have known that. Funny thing is same thing happened at Chelsea, he wanted a defender, the club said no and then the results drop off.

The first two goals were scored on around the 50 minute mark, the first one from a corner. A touch fanciful to attribute those to tiredness, wouldn’t you say?

The thing about the concocting a Mourinho defence around the awfulness of Jones and Smalling is that both players have won the premier league more than once.

Maybe the problem is him?

Jose was wanting to buy Harry Maguire... I don't think I would have released any cash for that!

As I tried to say he is due to the fact he can't or doesn't want to improve the players to play his system. Often he will tear them to shreds and whether they want to play for him afterwards may also be part of the problem.

However on the flip side if you were even considering playing swashbuckling football would you want your CBs to be Jones and Smalling?

You know as a CEO if Jose is going to be in charge of your team you have to keep your cheque book open to keep him happy which may in turn keep you winning trophies. Pointless not doing that as it's going to cost them a load to fire him. Perhaps there is a communication problem where the club keeps saying yes when he said he wanted x/y/z then there was nothing left for a defender afterwards, instead of telling him from the start you have XXX million and what he thinks are the priorities. That way they may have got a decent defender instead of Fred.

You may be a very sensible chairman. But if they had bought him and got 3 out of 3 wins (ok maybe 2 wins and a draw) and looked good and everyone was happy wouldn't have been worth 65 million?

I think the issue is they missed their top targets and wrongly or rightly they thought 65 million for a last minute backup grock was too much. But unfortunately that is the market if on the eve of the season you want to take an important player from another team.
