Split them, as in split them.

I suppose you’ve played centre back at a high level then. I mean I only played at high level amateur leagues, university first team level & was coached by actual coaches with fa accreditation.

Maybe I did it wrong for 20 years...

Show this to one of your FA coaches and ask them to spot the deliberate mistake.

I played as a pro,so we'll have to just disagree.one player pealed off towards the back post. Keane was left marking nobody as the ball sailed over his head....is that in the FA coaching manual?

Ok so the player who ghosted away from Gana and drifter into the hole between holgate and Keane that Keane ended up splitting with his man. I have 2 questions. First, if you were Keane would you have stuck to your man and left him? Second, f the ball had been played to him and he scored (the drifter) would the majority of our fans have blamed Keane do you think, and who’s responsibility was he. Because that’s the primary reason for the goal (him not being good correctly marked).

I've just watched it again. He doesn't go with the other man, he just misjudges the flight of the ball. He's touch tight to Jimenez originally, Gana's man becomes Holgate's responsibility as he runs into the box as Holgate is in the box with nobody else to worry about, Keane leaves Jimenez to head the ball away but he's misjudged it and it goes over his head, leaving his man unmarked. It's not a terrible mistake, but it is a mistake.

I can not believe you think Keane left his man to head the ball away and misjudged it. He left his man BECAUSE of the player who drifter away from Gana and into the gap between holgate and Keane.

Also needs credit for his involvment in the goal. Incredibly brave to go after that as the ball was just teasing someone to get smacked. It was a concussion waiting to happen. Luckily he wasn’t flattened and managed to put it into a dangerous area for Richarlison to finish. We need him to become dangerous on set plays, so that was a good start.

can't even blame Keane for that goal

Neves had acres of space to cross that in and it was a peach of a cross, Not a single lad was in Neves face you know Wolves only danger player?

It's very concerning how 1) we constantly allow teams to cross the ball, and 2) we are so poor in defending crosses. A deadly combination. Suicidal, if you will. Let's hope that chances with Digne and our new centre backs.

The boy Michael done ok the other day until he cost us the two points, I wasn’t far from giving him a compliment but he ballsed it up and normal service was resumed.

Keane small.webp
Keane is tight to Jimenez here, he's got his hand on his arm so he knows where he is. Look where the ball is. It's already travelled, what, 10-12 yards? At this point there is no chance whatsoever that the ball is going to the player in front of him, and yet it's after this that he leaves his man. Either he was going to the man in front of him because he had badly misjudged the flight of the ball - by about 10 yards - or he was trying to head it clear because he had slightly misjudged the flight of the ball - by about a foot - but either way, he clearly misjudged it.

The fault lies with others for not stopping the cross, Holgate is also asleep and doesn't even appear to have noticed the player running into the box, but to try and suggest Keane had no option but to do what he did is absolute nonsense. That cross cannot reach the man at the front post because of the angle of the ball and the run, he is of no danger in this situation, so if Keane went with him and ignored what was obviously the greater danger (the proof was in the pudding) then he's made a massive ricket. Personally I don't think he did, I think it was just a good ball and a momentary lapse which allowed his man to get away from him. It happens.
