No bigger than klassen bill.
Every signing is a risk. If we want to compete this is what it looks like.
Then we sell him on for 20m and no damage done.

But it would be great if he could just be really good instead.
My view on these transactions is that we should try and learn from the past: the near past of Koemageddon.

No harm in questioning these immense figures for a player who hasn';t got elite clubs snapping at his heels.

I'm not against the signing. I just ask where the confience lies in this being financially sound. He could easily flop then we're paying a player £6M to stink the place out and he'd want a club to come in and match his wages...which limits him to a handful of elite euro clubs. If he flops here no PL club would pay for him at a big price and pay his wages.
Thats one of the poorest arguments Ive ever heard.

Ronaldo could also flop, and if you pay him a lot then you would be stuck with his contract, yes.

Reasoning that paying any really good player a lot of money because they "might" flop basically means dont pay anyone anything, just in case. At some point you have to trust your talent evals, or, you know, the fact hes already made a name for himself. It is stunning the lengths you go to just malign everything the club does :hayee:

The same could be said for every transfer fee and salary Dave. We’re paying peanuts compared to what he would be worth if he was still under contract.

There’s one of you on every supporters forum. You’re so hung up on past perceived injustices that you refuse to praise any positive actions by the new leadership, only taking joy in “your” club’s failures. You’re not a supporter, or a fan, you’re just a [Poor language removed].

Just thought that we were entering a period where we'd go for low key solid signings and get our breath back after the waste of the Koeman years...wasn't that supposed to be the way we'd go under Brands - and everyone signed up to that idea?

It seems that the taste for ostentatious spending is still with us for many.

There’s no guarantees for any player to be fair.

Hypothetically if he flops, we sell him to a team in Europe for £20m and break even.

Can’t see a downside to this transfer really.
Only leagues that pay that much for flops is this one.

Bernard is magic Dave. Enjoy it.

Fair eneough point if he does well like. What if he doesn't? Big bill to pay there.

If he's not good then we can sell him and turn a profit, if we can loan Williams to Stoke, Mirallas to Fiorentina and sell Klaasen to Bremen it should be easy to sell a single name Brazilian to some other league for a decent amount
