ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 2

Except the rest of the country is enjoying it but you’re coming on an Everton forum trying to convince Everton fans that Pickford isn’t very good. Utterly bizarre.

I think Pickford is decent, and whether or not he is, he’s certainly having a good World Cup. Not sure where you think I’ve said otherwise. I’m certainly not trying to convince anyone of anything.

Have a great day.

Who do you think is the better keeper Pickford or Karius?

Half way through last season I’d have said they were probably even, both with weaknesses but both young and with a chance to become good, but neither likely to be great.

Now, Pickford is well ahead because I don’t see how Karius recovers from Kiev (and I don’t buy the concussion thing) and Pickford confidence will be flying going into next season assuming he doesn’t end up doing something awful in what remains of the World Cup.

I don’t think it’s untrasonable to not think Pickford is a top goalie, though. He’s come up trumps so far this tournament aside from the Belgium game where (goal aside) he was a bit suspect.

He did all you can ask for against Colombia, with one top class save and hero of a shoot out, and while we were well deserved winners against Sweden those couple of saves he made (especially the one from the header, which was a top save) were hugely important.

Whether Karius could’ve ended up as a top keeper was probably 50/50 but he’d made good steps in the right direction through the season, but he got lucky that blunders vs City (punch into Milner) and Roma (fluff onto the bar in the 1st leg, and offside penalty in the 2nd) didn’t cost us.

I don’t see how he can possibly come back from the final though, and if we go into the season with him as first choice it’ll be a big disappointment and I’d expect it to cost us.

There’s not all that many world class keepers about, so if you haven’t got one, you then need reliability. We haven’t had that since Reina’s first 3 seasons with us and it’s a big part of why we’ve not won much in the meantime.

You mentioned Kiev.
What happened again?

Have a nice day
