2017/18 Tom Davies

I completely get the view that Davies might be a Jack of all trades and master of none. The bottom line for me, though, is that he's played under two ball bag managers. Only under a new manager who has half a clue how to blend a team and find the best roles for all our youngsters can we judge Davies.

I think under a different coach who favours off the ball movement and circulating the ball a lot more he'll demonstrate his value.
He played well under Koeman to be fair. Not trying to defend Koeman but Davies did well last season

That's my number too.

Probably keep a couple of younger players as well as the five. The rest of them range from meh to utter disgust in how I feel about them.

I bet my 5 is different to yours.

TetleyHands - Hes bad, but he might get better
Coleman - If we had 11..............
Iceland - I like him, not his fault we overpaid by abar 30m

I lied, ive got 3.

Mine would be

Coleman
Baines
Holgate
Rooney
Walcott
Tosun

... that might be it actually

Sell / get rid priority for the rest, top 10:

Schneiderlin first,
Gueye
Funes Mori
Bolasie
Jagielka
Davies
Calvert-Lewin
Kenny
Niasse
Keane

Pickford

Walcott

Actually yeah I only have 4 myself. Tosun and Sigurdsson are on the maybe pile as neither has fully convinced me yet.

Definitely, I agree with you there.

Different players, plus I'd play Rooney off the main striker and don't consider him part of the midfield malaise.

He can play ten against the dross of the league but against the big boys again his legs aren't up to it anymore, it's been proven time and again this season(hence why he was pushed back into midfield). Although I agree he could be rotated in that position if we had a better more athletic midfield though. Getting Rooney in forward positions has been all too rare in the second half of the season due to a combination of his legs, where he's played and the team setup, as he does still have a pass or shot on him.

But the dross is say, 10-12 teams, home and away. That's 24 games a season, I don't genuinely think Davies has had 24 good games for Everton yet.

Rooney should be kept on as a sub. Also, who would buy Jags and Baines? Maybe Sheffield United, but he IS 35. Will they really want a knackered old defender if they want to challenge for the playoffs?

That's why I qualified it with 'get rid' - in the bin even if we can't sell, a cleansing of the club.

Maybe not but he's what 19 or 20? It's like comparing apples and oranges.

He's been playing with slow coaches in a team based on shape and sitting in, not maintaining possession and forward movements, yes he's been sloppy at times but think about the options he has on the ball or the lack of press from the likes of Rooney or Morgan. I don't think he's a play maker he's an all action box to box player who can pick a pass. In my view we need a deep lying playmaker and an athletic box to box player in midfield to go with Gueye. Davies should be rotated in and out and he will develop, that he has been relied on speaks to squad weakness and poor recruitment. I think casting him aside would be a mistake he has a role even if it's as a squad player.

I think for this to work we need to stop being one of the dross teams.

You can keep a player like Rooney in his current state if the team around him is better (ie moves for the ball and have a footballing brain) then we can just have him pinging balls all over the place for players to run on to.

With our current squad he looks for balls that are not on (again because nobody can be bothered/has the intelligence to actually make space for a pass), we lose position and are then in trouble because he cant get back and the rest are still dopes who will just stand and stare as the opponent bears down on our goal.

Just thinking about them makes me angry.
