That's right Bascombe. The question mark hangs over your hero and it's been placed there by the FA knowing that it will stick. That's another reason why they wouldn't condemn Holgate for bringing the complaint. They have evidence, it;s simply "insufficient" to go ahead safely with to a charge. You'll just have to make do with playing the victim card for LFC as per usual.

Give me the way this has been handled any day compared to the Suarez and Evra case. Is that what some of you have wanted here, a complete media circus leading to the most farcical handling of a racist complaint that trivialised the whole affair. Holgate has remained silent and dignified, Everton have remained silent and dignified and even Liverpool (probably with their behaviour from the Suarez case in the backs of their mind) have kept their gobs shut. This has been handled away from the media glare and the FA have taken their time, they haven't looked to cut corners and I think they genuinely believed Holgate's claim but without evidence what can you do? It's what separates us from the third world.
There is some proper victim cry arsing going on in here. "I wish Everton weren't pushovers", "I wish Jags wasn't such a little fanny", "I wish we had Liverpool's underhand approach" wah wah wah. This was a serious incident, and some of the nonsense on here threatens to turn the whole thing into the kind of sideshow that Suarez and Evra was - the kind of "will they shake hands" theatre that the gutter-press in this country absolutely loves.
I think some of you have been trawling through RAWK so much laughing at the RS that you've subconsciously adopted a bit of their style.

yeah but if they are totally innocent and proven as such, the case would be thrown out long before a "verdict" was required, which is why you don't find people judged "innocent"

Common sense. Has anyone in this thread actually read the full FA statement? Here’s an extract which everyone here seems to be ignoring:
“We took statements from a total of 12 players and officials from both teams, the match referee and the fourth official. None of these individuals directly heard the words alleged to have been said by Firmino.”
Our own players couldn’t even corroborate Holgate’s allegation. If they didn’t even hear anything then what do people want? A conviction based solely on Holgate’s word? Wake up and join the real world people as that’s not how it works.
The issue I have with this is that you have no idea what has happened behind closed doors.
Did Holgate want public backing from Everton? Does he still feel that he was racially abused? We don't know, so why are we getting on the clubs case about it? You could be giving the club grief for not supporting Holgate when they're doing exactly what he asked them to do.
It's entirely plausible that Holgate believed that during a heated melee there had been a racial slur, he reported it and it was officially placed on record in the referees report. 24 hours later, somebody sits down with him and says 'Right Mason, we're going to offer you all the support in the world just tell us what you need' and he says 'well actually I don't know if that is what he said. I thought it was at the time, but Jonjoe says he thought he said something else and I suppose he might have'. Club and player then agree that they'll just let the FA look into it and not make a massive fuss because while they stand by the allegation, they're not 100% sure that it really happened.
Alternatively, maybe he is 100% sure, but he doesn't want to be a poster boy victim so that some Everton fans can take the moral high ground over the way their club handled the situation, and would rather just get on with his life without forever being referred to as 'Mason Holgate, victim of racial abuse'.
Why oh why we have to criticise the club for every single they ever do is just beyond me.

All I can conclude from this, is that there are some proper "internet warrior" types posting their ridiculous comments in that thread, a bit like there are on here though as well to be fair.
You cannot judge every case in the same way. You need to have a balanced view and not start digging the past up for each individual incident.
This is basically why idiots should not be allowed access to social media.

The whole scenario goes against the Liberal agenda narrative so a non-white guy was never going to be accused of racism towards another non-white guy .
This is and always was going to be the issue. There were only ever 2 people ( the ref & Jon Joe Kenny) that could have possibly heard it (not sure who the 10 would have been anyway). As the ref took no action at the time we had to assume he hadn't heard anything, so that only ever left Kenny who could have conceivably heard anything. The wording of the above also suggest to me that these 12 people didn't hear ANY of the words, regardless of what they were
I'm still waiting for Liverpool FC to be charged for having insufficient protection for the fans from being hit by a flying Firmino coming over the dangerously low pitchside barrier.
