The ship has sailed for silva. Unfortunately for him Watford wouldn’t allow him to talk to us and ironically he’s now got the sack. His stock has fallen so low now, I doubt very much he’d be considered by anyone in the premier league, let alone us.

This really isnt the place for Martinez talk tbh mate as he has his own thread in the world football section so I'll just say this. Yes he was that bad, among other things he did here was deliver the worst home league win record in the club's history. I could go on forever about that charlatan but as i said, this isn't the place for it and the guy is gone now so it seems a bit pointless to make this about him.

But to get to your point about Spurs, they had already finished in the top four once before poch took over and they already had the basis of a good side which just needed a good manager to bring it out of them and add some excellent additions. We have an awful side and Marco Silva is an awful manager. The situation are completely diffent.
Why does it matter that they finished in the top 4 under Harry. That's like saying we are a top 6 team because we finished 5th a few years ago under Martinez. A couple of seasons is a long time. They really didn't have the basis of a good side no more than we do now.

Because there's a massive difference in perception from potential players if you finish 4th to 5th. Better players will come of you finish 4th, 5th not so much. They had a good side that was made better through their participation in the champions league. Lol for comparing that spurs team to our load of crap side and saying we are even close to as good as they were at the time!

Silva is not nearly good enough, now failed at two clubs in 2 years in the league. There are much better candidates with proven track records that can be lured in the summer. I almost wonder if we arent planning on ABV, we decided to wait to let him drive the Dakar rally since he insisted.

This is interesting and something I had no idea about given the ridiculously over the top praise Silva was getting early on in the season.

Before Everton approached Silva:

Played 11, Won 4, Drew 3, Lost 4*, GF 17, GA 21 = minus 4GD. Points 15 from 33

Sam Allardyce since taking over.

Played 11, Won 3, Drew 4, Lost 4*, GF 10, GA 13 = minus 3GD. Points 13 from 33.

*counting Liverpool Cup defeat as if it is a league game, and not counted the Limassol win as Allardyce didn't travel. One of Watford's defeats is a defeat at home to Bristol City in the Carabao Cup.

So Silva was meant to have been this great manager with free flowing entertaining football and only earned the equivalent of 15 points from 33 with a minus 4 goal difference. Allardyce is berated for being awful by large sections of the fanbase yet has only 2 points less, and actually comes away with a better goal difference from the same number of games.

Watford's 11 games included 4 against members of the current top/big 6 - Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal at home, and Chelsea away.
Everton's 11 games under Allardyce include 5 against members of the current top/big 6 - Liverpool away x 2, Spurs away, and Man United and Chelsea at home.
What was Poch's record with Southampton?

Played 60 Won 23 Drew 18 Lost 19 Win % 38.3. Finished 8th.

It's not just statistics. I have watched Watford a few times this season and they are a well coached team plus football is also supposed to be entertaining. Our play over the last couple of years is boring. I liked Moyes. I don't need a manager to play tika taka but it has to be better than what we are currently being served up.

In a way you are right. Playing % football will probably result in coming 7th and playing more progressive football is slightly more riskier with the chance of the odd bad season and finishing 10th etc but if we are ever to move on as a club we have to change.

It's a no for me, but to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if Big Sam walks. Koeman couldn't get a tune out of the players, Unsworth failed to get them firing, now Big Sam seems unable to make them understand the very basics of football. At what point do you start thinking that it may actually be players, and not the choice of manager, that's the problem?

I really liked Moyes. I hate the fact that these days people think of him and allardyce as equivalent in some way. We played some nice football under Moyes. Yes he played defensive football, particularly in the early days, but we got results against the odds.

But we played some lovely football, particularly when arteta was in the team. Certainly some of the best football I've seen us play (I'm a 30 year old) was in that period.
