I personally think suggesting “booting out of the club” is disrespectful to a long term srrvant as faithful and as awesome as jagielka ha been ... yes he is past his best and yes it’s probably time for him to move on but on the back of a Testimonial and a wholehearted thanks from the club
Thanks for winning us nothing, Jags! Now on your way to bliss retirement before you’re 40 to wherever you want with the millions we have given you.

We're just a club where once great players go to retire. And people think we can actually compete for anything.

Really? So ignoring the fact that anyone who is under 30 is still in their prime and likely wont be here in 3 years ANYWAY... Messi is 30, Lewandowski is 29, Suarez is 30, Bale will be turning 29 this year, Aguero is 29, and they are in the prime of their career and you would take them in a heartbeat.

Rooney 33 this year
Jagielka 36 this year
Williams 34 this year
Baines 34 this year
Coleman 30 this year

So out of as quad of roughly 30 players, that leaves us with Jagielka who will be gone in the summer, Williams who will likely be gone in the summer, and Baines who will be a backup in the summer, leaving only 1 likely starter in Coleman and a part-time starter in Rooney for next season. Thats pretty good.

Walcott 29 in March
Rooney 33 this year
Jagielka 36 this year
Williams 34 this year
Sigurðsson 29 this year
Bolasie 29 this year
Schneiderlin 29 this year
Baines 34 this year
Coleman 30 this year
Gueye 29 this year
Martina 29 this year

If you’re not worried by this then well am done.

Ideally only 3 or 4 of them, assuming they’re fit, should be playing regularly, along with a couple on the bench! Note I did say ideally!

I get what you are saying, but to call Sigurdsson, Walcott and Bolasie 'over the hill' is just wrong. They are all the age where they should be in their prime. We need a blend of youth and experience. We currently have that....we just need them to start showing their quality.
Over the hill might be harsh in Sigurdsson's case, but for Walcott and Bolasie, as pacy wide players, it's probably fair to say that they're past their peak. There aren't many wingers that hit their prime around 30. Can you see any of them commanding a transfer fee higher than what we paid for them?

I understand that we need a mixture of youth and experience, but our transfer strategy seems to be disproportionately skewed towards buying expensive players in their late 20s who probably don't have another transfer in them. If we're trying to build a long-term project that just doesn't make sense.

This is totally right. Some people are moaning for the sake of it.

Not really sure what the problem with these are

It just tells us that their performances are probably going to tale off over the next few seasons and that they might start picking up more injuries.

Look at Baines, his form dropped significantly around when he hit 30 and he's had a load of injuries over the last few years.

It's just not ideal to be building your team around a load of players who are exiting their prime and who are on huge salaries.

Davies - 20
Vlasic - 20
Lookman - 20
Holgate - 20
DCL - 20
Kenny - 20
Pickford - 23
Keane - 25

DCL has featured in every matchday squad this season. He has started every league game bar 3, I believe.

Kenny has been in the squad since the end of October.

Holgate is the first pick on the teamsheet in terms of a defender under Allardyce.

Davies, likewise, has featured in most games but has been in-and-out of the side.

Only Lookman and Vlasic on that list haven't been regulars so far this season, and Vlasic was getting a good run under Koeman.

This page shows the youngest and oldest starting 11s this season
https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/premier-league/durchschnittsalter/wettbewerb/GB1

We appear on the youngest list, don't appear on the oldest list and none of City, Utd or Chelsea appear on the youngest list.

A plague on you and your pesky facts.
The OP plainly wants to be a miserable arl ( *pause for ironic smile* ) arse on the internet, let him be ffs.
