I suppose as long as you don't give them a five-year contract it's alright, isn't it? If you're expecting them to make an immediate impact and help move you up the league? If we sign Walcott on a three-year deal to take him until he is 31 going on 32 I'd not see a problem in that at all. Yes there is little to no resale value, but it's not always about that. Will United have resale value in signing Sanchez for the 60m+ it'll take them when you take into account his fee, signing fee and fee to his agent?The sort of signing Villa/West Ham/Sunderland would have made in their rich period.
Still having old, unsaleable players, on huge wages worked out well for them so why not us?
