Sorry, but I disagree. Every player comes with risk: will they adapt to the team? will they stay in form? will they suit the league (if applicable)?

All that I understand and accept, however there are in my humble opinion ways of limiting this risk by looking for more 'proven' acquisitions.

Yes they may occasionally cost, which isn't ideal at all, however I'm in no way implying we should splurge the figure you've mentioned.

In an ideal world (which we're not in of course) we'd been looking at players proven in this league or with a more favourable scoring record.

How many people knew about him previous to our interest? It's not an ideal world however, so perhaps your last line is major selling point.

The teams that can afford to go for the ones who are proven at the highest level are the teams in the top 6. That's my point.

Proven players in the Prem in that position include:

- Benteke (1 goal this season)
- Deeney
- Giroud (doesn't want to join/Arsenal won't sell)
- Welbeck (injury prone, what we need?, Arsenal probably wouldn't sell)
- Walcott (we are interested)
- Vardy (would he be interested? Leicester would want £35m at least and he's 31)

The above list proves my point. The 'proven' players simply aren't out there. We sold that last PL-proven top quality striker that wasn't already at a top club for £90m last summer.

I don't know about him. You don't. That doesn't mean he isn't a good player. How many people had seen Tim Cahill before he joined us, other than Milwall's cup run?

This guy has done it regularly domestically and in Europe. In this instance, we have to trust that Sam - who wanted him for Palace - and the others know what he can bring and what quality he will add, and I'm willing to trust that they've watched him more than on a few YouTube clips.

just further proves we dont have the money if we try to pay for everyone in installments

Not necessarily. Most transfers will be done like that.

Saw something the other day showing that City still haven’t paid off John Stones for example.

Would be easier to do all in one, bit business, I mean real business, means that’s not always possible.

I know Saints fans (LOL) think they’ll be spending all the Van Dijk money this month. Not a chance they’ll be getting that all in one.

The thing with this is that nobody is shocked at the delays here. It was almost expected.
If only because I don't know much about this player and because Turkish clubs are known for this kind of delay/haggling, I wouldn't be bothered if we walked away from this one.
And yes, I do know we need a new striker.

Watching Arsenal v. Chelsea while waiting for an update on Cenk.

Mesut Ozil is absolutely killing it. Hey Mesut, Come to Besiktas mate!

:drunk:

Not that I think they will, but they probably could in the sense that - like we did with the Stones dosh - will be able to just borrow against it.

We need to take a risk. He is not a slouch on the ball and has impressed in Champions League. 25 mil for a 26 year old is nothing in the market for a promising striker.

You do know multi (multi) million pound fees are pretty much never paid up front in full, yeh?

We are notorious for being crap with transfers, but literally every side in world football pays in instalments. We're still owed £13m from City for Stones, which will come this summer.

The only example where it hasn't been like this in recent years was PSG with Neymar. Barca demanded the entire fee up front and due to LaLiga rules (and their stubbornness that they were not losing one of the league's poster boys) PSG had to actually transfer the £190+m to Neymar's lawyers, who deposited the funds 'physically' with LaLiga's lawyers.

But that's the exception to the rule.

Ahem, you`ve forgotten about Daniel " Studger " Sturridge mate.

Bring a Studger home.

@Sapie88 RIP
