The only player with any class that we have is Rooney.

He's been missing for these two games.

No one else stepped up which reinforces how spineless they all are. There's a £45mill midfielder there, a £30mill defender, a £24mill midfielder who can't get in the squad. None of them are worth the price and fundamentally need better players around them to look half decent.

Think Sam knows this and has asked these players to play forward better, keep the ball better. They aren't. Hence why most should be out in the summer.

Whether Sam is here in the summer is a different argument. But the point that most of these players aren't good enough and need binning isn't.
Yes a lot need binning, but what I’m saying is that we do not have the worst squad in the league. We are poor, no question, but if we went at teams worse than us we would pick up points

Maybe not the worst but it's certainly in the 5 worst in the league for me.

The way we're playing under Sam is about the level it's at IMO.

We've got 5 under 21s being key members of the first 11. Most out playing their more expensive and experienced team mates. On paper any side that does that is in a crisis.

I'd go a little further and suggest we have a pretty decent squad with a few notable exceptions in attack and at left back. The key issue is form, Schneds stands out but he's not the only one, Sam must have his reasons for starting McCarthy today but I can't see any beyond persuading Moshiri he needs money to spend. We will be fine once the balance is restored, all the hysteria around this place reminds me of RAWK, we are not great but we are fixable.

What would people prefer...having a go and getting smashed 4.0 etc (the minute it gets to 3, that side will fold and it could be a cricket score).

Or get a draw and a replay back at GP?

Make no mistake, the minute we go there with our midfield that has zero creativity and a blunt strike force...we will get massacred.

There is playing defensively and then there is playing to ensure you don't lose badly as the priority, we do the latter mate. We play so defensively we negate any threat we could pose. As evidenced by our shot count against good sides is abysmal even in comparison to teams like West ham and palace.

Of course he did.we only have one. Players are not issue here. Mentallity of team is. If you stuck in players mind that defense is only way of playing football, then you get team who is more worried to get the goal but to achieve scoring one.

Which I agree with.

But that squad isn't built for this free flowing attacking football some people think we can play.

It's full of inconsistent cowards and average footballers who have hid when Rooney hasn't played.

You can go through the entire squad, especially in an attacking sense, and find more negatives than positives.

Then he was wrong and costed the team dearly. 3 DM. If he was intended to go for a draw played 5 at the back and always hoof the ball. The amount of misplaced pass at the back was shocking yesterday. All of a sudden, the defenders were trying to build up and pass at the back which they don’t have such abilities on the ball.

West Ham and Palace have a better and more balanced forward line than we do.

Zaha, Townsend, Benteke, Carroll, Ayew, Hernandez, Aunotavic, Lanzini compared to Calvert Lewin, Rooney, Siggurdson.

Additionally, they're in the bottom 4 because they can't defend.

Drawing with a handful of minutes to go, playing away from home. Against all instincts brings on an attacking player in Bolasie for a defensive one in Gueye. Concedes and loses.

Must be kicking himself. Can’t see him making that mistake again.

he got it wrong yesterday

bad set up and the third change (bringing Bolasie on) while a positive sub, was a poor one when we needed energy in the middle of the park and had Davies available.

no need for three players like that in midfield against Bournemouth and Sigurdsson should have played centrally from the start, with Vlasic or Lookman given a chance on the left.

We move on. Didn't deserve anything from that game and the luck we had against Chelsea and WBA ran out. A shame but now we have to rectify that heading into two massive games.

Sam has impressed me so far but in the last two games has fallen into the trap that has got him labelled as a long ball merchant all along. When we had a settled side, with Rooney in the middle and partnerships developing across the pitch, we looked a lot sharper, so it's now about getting back to that side asap now we're through the worst of the festive pile up.

Erm, he brought Bolasie on in the 71st minute when we'd actually been on top.

It was the wrong change though because Bolasie offered zero in terms of defending and was clearly miles off the pace.

Had he had Vlasic available, then fine, but really the change should have been Davies.

Gueye clearly went off because he was never gonna last 90 mins given his recent injury.
