Expected defeat. We set up far, far too defensive and eventually the pressure was too much. Once we conceded the first goal - It was as good as over. Incredibly, Burton, Bolton, Birmingham all lost too so we didn't really lose any ground on our rivals. Still, really poor performance from Sunderland. Not going to be too harsh as we've been much better lately since Coleman took in, defensively, we were all over the place. We lacked a cutting edge too.

I think we showed far too much respect to Sheffield United. Yes, they started the season on-fire but they've been on a poor run of form, the game was there for the taking if we showed some courage and balls to really 'have a go' and get in their faces. We set out to draw 0-0 and folded like a pack of cards.

Notts Forest away next, hard game, they're a really unpredictable team so we'll see what happens.

Back to the drawing board....
 

Worryingly, I saw on Twitter today that the expected improvement in form of Coleman coming in hasn't materialised, so Short is already planning for League One and looking to reduce the wage bill by 30% in January 2018, with a further 30% when relegation is confirmed in the summer.

Difficult to see a way back now.

I would guess that he doesnt fancy the Championship. Its tough as teak that league, and Rodwell was never exactly an imposing layer was he? That and Sunderland paying him sommet like £60k pw. Coleman, understandably, wants a bit more than he offers.

Man is a fraud. He's made his career based on some excellent performances early in his career, which earned him big money moves. I've never disliked any Sunderland player, (Apart from Michael Chopra, who was open about the fact he didn't like Sunderland and bottled it against Newcastle at St James Park) but Rodwell, is someone I actively want out of our club. I'd be happy letting him go for free. In fact, I'll pay the taxi for him! He backs out of challenges, he hides from the ball, he's constantly 'injured' and has made millions doing so in the process! I think most Sunderland fans feel robbed with Rodwell.

I don't mind players who just aren't good enough. For example, Jon Stead, went an entire season without scoring virtually, but the lad give it his all - He just wasn't good enough, I've no problem with that. Rodwell has talent, but is a coward, he doesn't have the heart & bottle to really make it.

Think he went 1,370 minutes for us without being on the 'winning' side. I'm not too bothered about that stat, (Although it is awful) as that's just bad luck and the fact he was playing in a woeful team - But it's no coincidence we're a worse team (overall) with him in the starting 11.

Since 2007 I think he's only played 160 games, 160 games in 10 years? Jesus. I concede, some of them were genuine injuries which can't be helped, but he doesn't have the desire to play. He's more than happy to be paid millions not playing football, which is a disgrace.

He's 26 so it's not too late, but I do question if he'll ever have the desire. I don't know it's something you can just learn, you've either got it or you haven't. You either want to play every minute of every game, or, you're not bothered, and just want to be well paid and have millions in the bank for when you retire at 34/35, I think he's in the latter category.

I've never seen him angry, you know, like when we're getting turned over 3-0 at home and you're wanting someone, anyone, to at least put a foot in and show something - anything? Rodwell, just jogs around the pitch without a purpose. Doesn't show for the ball, play's safe 5-yard square passes instead of playing it forward. Very frustrating to watch. Of course, we don't want him showing too much passion like Cattermole, getting sent off, but at least show the fans that you care.

When he played for yourselves I watched him pick the ball up and drive forward, he's a big powerful lad so he was hard to stop, not blessed with lightening pace but had all the ability, we've not seen any of that at Sunderland.

Pound-for-pound, Rodwell is the worst transfer of Sunderland's entire history (in my view). 10m we paid for him, 5 goals since 2014, few assists and injured for 50% of his time here.

You never know, he could prove me and everything wrong and have a fantastic 2017 season, saving us from relegation....Maybe? lol

Good post, but one that can be summed up by what we all already know. Jack Rodwell is a massive fanny.

Rodwell is still your highest paid player on £60k a week until the end of this season I believe.

What a terrible buy, i thought we done great getting about 13m off City

but i think they done even better getting about 10m off Sunderland.

To be fair, there's enough stinkers at Sunderland that considering each player individually would send a fan into a new pit of despair.

Imagine a team of Barmbys, Angells, Koldrups and Nyarkos. How you can't be sympathetic to that plight I will never know you cruel man @orly.
 
Delighted with a huge morale-boosting victory! We scored with our only shot on target! I'll take it, defended well and Nottingham Forest ran out of ideas eventually, couldn't penetrate us. They had plenty of the ball, but didn't really do much with it. We've definitely worked hard on the defensive side of things in training as we're more of a unit now, there's a coherence to our shape and we make it hard to score against us by getting bodies back. Don't get me wrong, it's quite sobering that we're coming here and parking the bus, I'd much rather we come here, played great football and played them off the park, helping us to push for promotion. But, we've got to be realistic, this is where we are at the moment, doubt that's going to change soon unless there's a monumental change of the entire structure of the club.

We've climbed out of the bottom 3 and are defending much, much better since Coleman come in. Well done to McGeady too, he's been really off-form lately so delighted he's got the winning goal - Well done Sunderland.
