David Unsworth - Temporary Manager

Aye, Unsworth aint the problem here. You ask a trainee to drive a bus, then blame him when he crashes it, is poor form. He has shown his value to the club, but it isnt as 1st team manager. Thats fine.

No point blaming Koeman. Whats done is done. But I struggle to believe that a half competent coach, with a few bob in January, cant make these players into a capable, if not world beating, PL team.

Equally though that trainee has been telling everyone and anyone that he wants to drive the bus, that all the passengers want him to drive the bus, and the bigwigs at the home depot are talking to him daily about carrying on driving the bus.

You cant just put 9 behind the ball and tell them to press for 90 minutes mate. You set up like that you'll still get an ass-kicking. Man marking tutorials for players in the box can only get you so far...and even that takes a long time to get even remotely polished.

I'm not arguing for him to stay on, btw.

You're talking to a fella who has actually played professional football here by the way

Unsworth may well be out of his depth but I thought Joe Royle appearing at his shoulder, not for the first time, to pass on his wisdom was demeaning to him, and I say that as an admirer of Joe since his 'Royle Flush' days. Doubt if he'd have put up with someone doing that to him when he first became a manager; if he wants to do that perhaps he should take over as Caretaker-Caretaker Manager.

Indeed. Being a good U23 coach is no way the same as a PL manager. Like I have said, that aint his fault. Hes tried, and fiddled, and tried again. But to no avail. Well, little.

We should just count ourselves lucky we got those 4 points against Watford and Palace. Both teams will probably still be wondering how they managed to mess that up.

Unsworth needs putting out of his misery as soon as possible. Unbelievable failure on the boards part to have let this drag out for as long as it has. You can only assume they were praying it would turn around and they could keep him as the manager until the summer and then reassess the options.

fair point. I suppose when he was asked to take temporary charge, (l o l) he couldnt really come out with anything else though.

I said last week mate that Unsworth to my mind even after we got the results under him was no tactician. But the stick he's getting is outrageous.

He doesn't deserve massive stick as he has just tried and failed with what was already a group of people as dysfunctional as St Trinian's, however I feel he could have done better in getting the team to defend in numbers and keep it tight. He like Koeman doesn't appear to have a set gameplan.

Has he?

I have my own opinion mate, I dont care if I'm talking to Guardiola.

Not saying you shouldn't have your own opinion, only I'm thinking if you're telling an ex-pro footballer that

You cant just put 9 behind the ball and tell them to press for 90 minutes mate

He probably knows whether it works in practice or not.

..i’m not saying put 9 players behind the ball. I don’t know what the answer is with this lot but the back 4 need protecting because they are so poor we can’t leave them exposed. It’s a mess but it’s why Managers are paid lots of money.

I'm having serious doubts now about that.

I think we'll need a lot of bodies in January to keep clear of the relegation pack.

3 defenders minimum, 2 CB to replace the dormouse and the donkey and a LB to replace Baines, re-register Garbutt for back up as well.
Striker to play first choice with DCL, Niasse and Sandro as back up or partners in a 2 man attack
Bin off Mirallas first chance you get, same with Morgan and McCarthy

I am astonished that he has been hung out to dry to such an extent by the board, their treatment of him is despicable. He may not be the man for the job, but he's had absolutely no encouragement or support from on high so it's little wonder that he seemingly commands such little respect from the players.

If any of us was asked to take temporary charge in whatever our field of work, with a hint that we could have the job permanently, while simultaneously seeing the job advertised all over the place how would we react, let alone perform? This is squarely at the door of our charmless, clueless leaders and they now need to get the house in order pronto, before this big blip becomes a fully grown crisis. It doesn't matter whether it's Dyche, Sam or any other name. I feel for Unsworth, the club have shown him no respect and for once I don't blame Bill.
