Yes.
Law 12 Section 1 of the IFAB Rules of the Game.
A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences against an opponent in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:

  • charges
  • jumps at
  • kicks or attempts to kick
  • pushes

A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences:

  • handles the ball deliberately (except for the goalkeeper within their penalty area)
  • holds an opponent
  • impedes an opponent with contact

Likewise simulation is defined as:
(A player) attempts to deceive the referee e.g. by feigning injury or pretending to have been fouled (simulation)

Its not, a non-contact sport, mate.

Wouldn’t want it to be.

But there are clear rules as to what is legal contact. Dann didn’t even look at the ball. He checked Niasse’s run & put his arm across him. That’s a foul. Not condoning Niasse making a meal of it, but players shouldn’t have to. It’s gone on too long.

But the main issue is he not the 1st to do it this season, so the club is right to challenge that.

the funny thing is, if what dann did is not a foul, its obstruction, he put his arm across with no intention of ending up with the ball

so we are being punished because the ref gave a pen instead of an indirect free kick

regardless of whether niasse went down, it was not a 50-50 shoulder barge, niasse had the ball, its obstruction

Had that been an RS player getting done we would be loving it.

It was a dive, we got a pen...lets just get on with it and move on.

No.

There's clearly been more blatant diving incidents in the league this season so people are well within their rights to question the decision.

He did go down easily, no doubt about it, but I still think it's subjective. How can anyone prove that it didn't knock him off his stride?

What happens next weekend when a player goes down like a sack of crap and there's inevitably no punishment? Should we just "get on with it and move on"?

As has been mentioned, I'd be happy for Niasse to take the fall for this if I thought the rule was going to be equally applied in all future cases, but we all know it won't. Scott Dann is a kopite snitch

Have the FA thought about this: some time soon by the law of averages a Liverpool player will get done for simulation, then the 13 strong pool of judges on their diving committee will be handed death threats in the form of bullets in the post, phone calls to family members in the dead of night, nooses dangled form the roof's of their houses...and that's just from fellow panelist Danny Murphy.

As sure as night follows day that will happen.

I imagine they would just select Danny Murphy to be on the panel of 3, as it requires unanimous support for the player to be charged.
