David Unsworth - Temporary Manager

It's not a striker issue as such either - although thats not ideal, as atm Niasse is playing arguably better than half the teams in the leagues main strikers.

The major problem is a complex one and it's not easy to put one thing to blame.

Certain players performance levels are absolutely criminal - Schneiderlin for one, Williams another, a lot are out of form and it's cascaded down into one hell of a mess, and i think a lot of the 'failing to get a striker in' was used to mask a deeper problem, we spent 140m this summer without an idea on how to fit those players into a coherent team.

we are so thin in certain areas - it effectively limits what we can do to change things down to seemingly a merry go around of changing whose playing centrally and if we go for theoretically better players shoehorned in out of position or go for 'inferior' players whose natural positions at least they are.

Hopefully a new manager 'silva' can come in - keep us ticking over and improving the organisation and get some points on the board until January, then we can cut out the crap from this squad, shift it out in sales or even loans and trim the squad down a lot in certain bloated areas and bring in 2-4 genuine options which fits around players we have (and lack) and the mangers system and style of play. I'd snap your hand off rigth now for Silva coming in and getting 12 from the next 9 games up until January

We lack balance mate. I see the team today, and I see a side that lacks pace, experience, aggression energy, creativity, width and goals. Normally with poor teams they will have some of those traits. I think to the mid 90's and the sides at least had width, height and fight. The teams Joe put out were full of big lads and could tackle.

I'd hope Unsworth could throw us together and solve some of the problems. I suppose you could argue he has with the goals we are scoring, but it seems a fair few of our goals are quite fortunate not through general play.

One thing Silva would do is get us functional quickly. Hull were more of a shambles than we are now and he turned it around quickly. Thats as good as it will get, with lads coming in in January.

We're playing two defensive m/fs. There's no need for that.

These things are within our means to solve, but we have to recognise that we have no striker in the team who can make a difference if we do start closing up spaces between lines.

We're desperate for January.

Playing two dm's I think is essentially currently. The problem we have is our DM's don't protect our defence well enough. They are not Ebbrell, Parkinson or Horne. Our defence needs more protection. As an aside we have looked better with 3 not 2 dm's.

He's doing well when you consider how poor the squad is.

Can you name me someone who might do better?
No he's not mate, he's doing poorly and the results show that. I could name you 5 to 10 managers with experience that we could get that blow him out of the water with their management skills, ffs Fat Sam could do better and he's someone I hate and want no where near the club. If you honestly think there's no one better than Unsworth currently available and willing then what I say won't change your mind. The squad isn't as poor as people are making out, the players are suffering from poor management/ tactics which is resulting in terrible confidence on pitch. We've 2 main players due back from injury soon which will improve results also. Saying that, the squad have slightly improved under Unsworth, I'll give you that but it's not good enough and his tactics are just run lots seemingly and he constantly gets his starting line ups wrong.

Apart from all that though he’s doing fine.

It’s all opinions & it's easy from the armchair......but for me, Unsie repeatedly makes too many bad starting selections & leaves himself too many changes to make.

For me, Tom Davies is the 1st name on the teamsheet, & particularly now we’re scrapping for every point. Unsie’s biggest (maybe only) coup is the introduction of Benigme, who’s shown way more everything than Schneiderlin, so why he picked the latter today, I just don’t understand at all??? And as for Sigurdsson, like Klaasen, I’d just leave him for the incoming manager to decide what to do with. I’d have left Lookman on & given Siggy the hook.

IMHO, if we’d started with Davies in place of Sigurdsson & DCL up with Niasse instead of Schneiderlin, we could have dominated that game. Vlasic should have either started or replaced the 1st one to tire in Lennon or Lookman.

Let’s hope we get Silva in ASAP.

All these guys will play against Atalanta, rightly or wrongly

Still not impressed at all with his tactics. But its an important set of games now. Saints away a point ,hammers and huddersfield at home *6 points needed there. And have a real go at the horribles ( i predicted in august they will wipe us cause of our lack of pace and intensity so that could be a 3 or 4 nil loss)

So if he can keep his luck we might get 7 points out of 12.

Must say, I'm a bit surprised that Unnnnnnnsy has decided the best way to show he is the ideal replacement for Koeman has been to, er, play the exact same formation as him and drop Vlasic

Thankfully not for much longer
Also surprised.

However that being said he's put faith into Lennon, Niasse, Kenny, Davies, Beni and Lookman who have done well as a collective in improving our fortunes.
