I think he had to go, results weren't improving and he kept changing our team, just confirming the man didn't know his best team. The word 'clueless' is tossed around too often nowadays, but it fits perfectly with Grayson. We seemed to go on to the pitch with no idea how to deal with our opposition, nor did we (fans) understand what system Grayson was trying to play. Overall, we looked incoherent on the pitch and defensively, all over the place.

You're right about lack of options though, there's no real options out there. Personally, I'd take a punt on Kevin Phillips, least he understands the club and has the passion to succeed.

If we appoint Ally McCoist like rumours suggest, I will probably put my head into a food blender and just give up altogether. lol

Sunderland are in a right mess. They are in massive debt which has seen mass redundancies and they spent a whopping 1.5M in assembling a new team in the summer, despite the Pickford money.

Sacking Grayson was just the latest example of the weak management backing the truly awful players over their managers.

They should have stuck by ONeill all those years ago or, perhaps better, Steve Bruce. They have been in a steady decline ever since and it seems to be reaching crisis point

Every manager we'e sacked apart from 1 I agreed with including the 2 You've mentioned. The time was right as we were going backwards

The only one I would have stuck with was poyet. However, he was never the same after the 8-0 at Southampton, but with him i felt we had a style. He did buy will Buckley mind (but he play his part in the last minute winner v Newcastle, mind)

The only manager that we bloody stayed with too long was moyes.

Our fanbase is the only thing about Sunderland that is, has, and always will be - World Class. That isnt even debatable. Our support is outstanding, especially considering we've had nothing to justify it on the pitch. We sell out away matches without fail, yes our crowds at dropped at home but that's only to be expected. Some people aren't going as they are glory fans and only attend premiership games or Newcastle derbies, some aren't going as a protest to Short, and some simply can't be bothered with watching us lose - again. However, even with all of that said, we still have the biggest crowds in the division, with the exception of a few clubs like Leeds etc. I've no doubt the fans will come back, they just need a reason too.

Most Sunderland and Everton fans have a respect for each other as both have a proud history and a largely loyal fanbase, although Sunderland's achievements have been lacking for far too long. Having said that, we could be following a similar route ourselves with no trophies won for 22 years now.

Regarding your support, I think there is a tendency in the North East for you to overrate your support somewhat. Don't get me wrong, both Newcastle and Sunderland have very good backing from their fans on the whole but how can you class it as World Class? You were getting 40,000 crowds because a) you have a Stadium that allows you to get that many fans, and b) because Sunderland had some of the cheapest tickets in the league with a lot of ticket deals. Clubs like Chelsea, Tottenham and ourselves have been restricted in our numbers due to Capacity.

Your away support in numbers in recent seasons was decent but overrated by a lot of your fans because your club often only requested lower allocations because they knew you couldn't sell the full ones. So selling out 1,700 and declaring you sell out all aways is being a bit deluded. On top of that, the top 7 clubs would sell out 3,000 with ease at nearly all aways meaning that if we were allowed to sell as many tickets as possible in them games that you lot only took 1,500-2,000 to then the gulf in the average away figures between the top 7 and yourselves would have been far higher.

This season, understandably your away support has dropped off because you're going through turmoil but to bring 450 fans to Goodison and only 1,000 to others suggests your away support is no more loyal than most clubs. Those figures are the kind you'd expect from a Crystal Palace or a Brighton, not Sunderland. Leeds for example are a similar sized club and their fans have been through a worse drop off and never sunk so low in their away support.

I think it's telling how well supported Sunderland are compared to other clubs that view themselves as having big fanbases in the Championship though. Sunderland are still averaging the 3rd highest in the Championship despite being bottom of the league, whilst Wolves who probably see their fanbase as similar are 1k less whilst top. If Sunderland were top you'd be getting 35K+ easily in my opinion.

I don't see the difference between Sunderland getting relegated, to teams like Leeds, Wolves, Sheff Wed, Sheff Utd, Derby, Man City, Newcastle, Pompey. None of their crowds melted away as Sunderland's have done. Not to my knowledge any way. I'm sure there'll be back again in time.

Well, I enjoyed reading your post mate and I must say - unlike a certain someone on this thread, you've made good points with solid foundation for your argument. Thank you. Now, I'll try and respond. Just before I do that, there's a lot than Everton & Sunderland fans have in common in terms of massively underachieving and have little to show in terms of trophies, for our efforts. Before @orly jumps in to shout "We're in the Premiership and you're heading towards oblivion in league 1 how can you compare" my comparasion is simply underachieving. There's no doubt, you've consistently proven yourself as a solid premiership club whilst we have been a yo-yo club, you have established yourself in the Premiership for many years, whilst we never have since Peter Reid in 99/2000. You've also pushed for top 6 finishes, we haven't. You've spent god knows how many years in the top flight, inflicting some heavy defeats on us in the process. I have genuine respect for your team and Everton as a whole, are a classy club - Just like at what you did for poor Bradley.

Anyway, back to and my claim that we are 'world class'. In terms of support. Admittedly, I'm probably biased, however, I stand by my comment. Consistently, over the years, we have turned up in our thousands home & away. When we had our brief spell under Peter Reid, when we finished in the top 6, we were getting 40 odd thousand every home game. Our club has so much potential, we have a excellent fan base, good stadium, and excellent youth/training facilities. Yet, for all that, we've had virtually nothing to show for it. We went down with 19 points, which was (at the time) the lowest points total, a few years later in 2005/2006 we broke our own record by finishing with 15 points. (Luckily, Derby now have that unwanted record when they only got 12 I think from memory). All we need is a 'good' season in the Premiership and we would get 40,000 every home game, only 6/7 clubs would get higher.

We've also had to endure a dismal derby record v Newcastle (up until recently when we got 6 in a row) and watch them finish higher than us, sometimes in a higher division. They have mocked us and ridiculed us as being "in their shadow". I'd argue, we're probably one of the 'least rewarded' clubs in the world for a club of our size and structure.

We're so passionate about football here, it literally makes-or-breaks our weekend. If only, a manager could take us to new heights (it wouldn't take much I know) there's no limit to what we could achieve.

Our geographical location puts us at a massive disadvantage. Let's be honest, no world class footballer wants to play in Sunderland, often considered a **** hole! For example, a few years ago we were after Peter Crouch but his WAG did not want to live in Sunderland - That was the end of that deal.

I know I haven't totally justified my 'world class' comment but I genuinely don't think many clubs would still get the numbers we get, after years of misery we've suffered. I feel we're a sleeping giant. Now, we're at a all-time low, we've never been further away from my 'dream' of seeing Sunderland compete in the top 10 of the Premiership and it breaks my heart.
