Nailed on for Moyes’ hammers

Should have been binned off ages ago

That new contract he got was absolutely mystifying

Don't get people who suggest he should be in the team as he is better than what we have now (he isn't) and has pace (not anymore).

This is the final straw. The spineless, two-faced, unreliable shobgite

Don't want to see him even on the bench again

Wasn't really mystifying at all though. If he goes we can at least recoup £6m given his current contract. He'd have had 6 months left and we'd have got £2m max if not.

Kev has, for a long time, even one of my favourite players. Think back to the two Wolfsburg games in the Europa, back in 2014; the home leg against Kiev in 2015... in that 2014/15 season generally, he was pretty productive. A bit of a tit, yes: but the type of player who goes through Suarez studs first, in a derby match where the RS are stamping on ankles from the first minute to the last, is hardly NOT going to be a bit of a tit, is he?

For whatever reason, he became a peripheral player in Roberto's final, disastrous season and played roughly a third less minutes than the year before. Koeman comes in and we see Kev given another chance: he shows again, in brief glimpses, that when he feels like it he can do a decent job: see the goal and assist in the 4-0 win against City in January 2017. But he doesn't really show it often enough.

Fast forward to today: after a summer in which unwise transfer activity sees us just throwing cash at names (to placate the howling FM virgins screaming about "showing ambition") rather than applying a strategy, Kev finds his chances limited due to the need for big names (Rooney) and expensive buys (Gylfi) to start regardless of form, tactical need or team shape. However, his response to this scenario has been APPALLING. The one place to make a clear statement, week in and week out, that the manager should be picking you is ON THE TRAINING PADDOCK. I coach a sport myself, at university level: if you start acting up in training, then my patience with you expires very, very rapidly. Senior players should, at all times, be setting an example in terms of paying attention and working hard.

If the story re Kev and Schneiderlin is true then I would be looking to offload Kev in January. He's 30, he's lost some pace, we have some alternatives out wide (Lennon, Lookman, Vlasic - maybe even Bolasie, but I wouldn't count on him after that injury) and there may be suitors for him. If Olympiacos make a serious bid, rather than the laughable fake offer they put out in social media over the summer, then I would wave him goodbye and rue what might have been.

BTW, his reaction was because he found out he wasn't in the squad.

I'm not condoning what Kev did, but if half of the other players showed that level of frustration at not playing, then we wouldn't be in a bad position.

FWIW, has Kev actually had a poor game when he's played for us this season?

He played well vs Split in the first leg, he did well vs Chelsea and played fine in the first half v Leicester and it was a mistake from Unsworth to take him off.

People are acting like he's been awful. He's hardly been given a chance.

We also have a far bigger loyalty bonus to pay out when we sell him and actually have to pay him wages in the meantime (£60k per week at least, given that's what he was earning when he first arrived), so if we keep him for 6 moths, that's £1.5m in wages we've paid him and we'd presumably need to stump up that sort of figure to pay him off if he left - not sure we are in a much better position by keeping him

Same principle when we gave Gibson a new deal - given the likely transfer fee we would recoup for him and the wages we had to pay in the interim before selling him, was it really worth it?

Think there comes a point with troublemakers like this where it's much more prudent to cut losses

He's been poor for the best part of three years and has been bombed out by three successive managers, think that tells its own story

Has he been 'that' poor though?

2014/15 - first half of that season he was in the form of his life.

He got the hump (wrongly) in Jan 15 when Martinez said he needed him to stay when Atletico came calling.

Thing is, Martinez didn't play him after that and when he did play, his performances weren't up to scratch.

Summer 2015 he signs a new deal when it seemed likely he would leave. Martinez says he's an important player etc.

Yet he hardly features until Christmas time. Not helped by stupid things like that red card away at Swansea.

Gets a chance under Koeman. Isn't bombed out as such, just used as a squad option. Plays really well vs City in a second striker role that I think is his best position. He hasn't got the pace to be a threat on the wing any more.

Again, signs a new deal, but then something must happen in the summer as clearly he wants out.

In hindsight though, perhaps he - like Barry? - was left feeling that Koeman simply wouldn't give him the game time. Remember, in a WC year, at 30, Kev needs to be playing to get himself in that Belgium squad.

On the 3-4 occasions he's played for us (starting) this season, I think he's played fine.

His reaction isn't right, but as I said, if half of the other players showed that level of fight/frustration - but applied it better - we wouldn't be in the situation we're in.

I understand where you're coming from on this point, but I disagree.

If half our players, on finding out they had not be selected for a particular game, decided to treat the rest of that training sessions as a joke... decided to ignore the first-team coach... decided, in front of other squad members, to play crossbar challenge rather than participate in the drills designed to raise their performance levels... then we'd be in a far worse position than we currently are. And that doesn't bear thinking about.

I agree with your assessments of his performances against Split, Chelsea, Leicester etc.
I agree that his appearances have, perhaps unwisely, been limited.
But I can't condone or accept his behaviour in training, if the reports are true. He should be first to arrive at training and the last to leave, he should be listening intently and applying himself fully, he should be doing everything he can in every session to make Unsworth think "Blimey. Kev really wants this, he's working his nuts off and banging goals in all over the shop at Finch Farm. Even the other lads are talking about him. He's in the starting XI." But instead, he's defying the coaching staff and playing crossbar bloody challenge??! Pardonnez-moi? Ich don't think so.

Oh I'm not saying treat it as a joke mate. That was totally wrong - but I've seen other things that suggest this wasn't actually entirely the case (a bit of both).

I think he'll go in January. I won't shed a tear - as he does flatter to deceive.

However, based on his actual displays for us this season I think it's fair to say it's not really right he hasn't got an extended run in the squad/team.

I suppose this is the crux of the problem. As usual, there are conflicting rumours coming out and the use of social media by the players is, as always, muddying the waters.

As I've already said, if the rumours are true then Kev is bang out of order. If however something rather different took place then my opinion would naturally alter to reflect that. Can you share any info?
