Lukaku signed for United before Neymar went to PSG. They were not interested. Neither were Real Madrid, Barcelona - the proper elite clubs in world football right now. Note the words 'right now', because United aren't in that club. Only the B-tier that are United and Chelsea were interested because the A-tier wouldn't be possible. Hence why a fringe player at Real Madrid and Lukaku ended up at them. Whereas PSG elevated themselves with Neymar and Mbappe to elite status, because they are genuine elite players.

We had to milk United dry whilst the fee was that high for Lukaku and they were desperate due to losing Ibrahimovic. Selling him was a no brainer.
Mate I know you are only acting stupid.

Everyone knows the deal for Neymar was done long in advance and it was only put of so Neymar could get a bonus for staying till that date.

Then again I wouldn't be surprised if the Lukaku deal was done the previous summer.

Utd are as popular as Barca or Real Madrid and would probably beat both this season

Lukaku signed for United, 10 July 2017.

The Neymar to PSG story first broke in worldwide media on 17 July, and wasn't completed until 3 August.

There was no 'deal' for Neymar. PSG just paid the ridiculous release clause in his contract, which was obviously not ridiculous enough.

The RS will sell Coutinho in either Jan or next summer, see Suarez for details.

Arsenal? A cracking example them like, watching 2 players who would have been worth at least £130m the pair, running down their contracts and free to sign deals with foreign sides in 2 months time...

Soton? Is this the same Soton who've sold their best players every season, mostly to the RS? VvD has hardly been busting a gut since they brought him back in from the cold and will almost certainly join the RS in either Jan or May.

We sold 2 players who wanted away and got great money for them, it happens, it's football, and every club has their place in the pyramid and we're no exception.

Add to that, if they didn't break the news all over the papers and VIA every outlet possible, prior to speaking to Saints, there is a good chance he would be there now.

Woops.

I still don't think Neymar had any baring on the transfer fees. What PSG can pay is completely divorced from what any other team can pay plus it was a buyout clause.

I agree. Hence why when people have a go at Moshiri for 'only' getting £90m for Lukaku, they're completely wrong. That was a massive fee for what Lukaku is - we sold at the exact right time for a fantastic fee to a club desperate for a 'talisman' who didn't have any other realistic options, because they couldn't attract the elite so needed a B-tier headline grabber signing.

At least we agree on Neymar. Assuming we got 90m I think we sold for around 40m to 50m too cheaply. I think that because relative to other players I think 90m is cheap.

But then again I also think PSG got Neymar on the cheap and Kane is worth 200m so maybe my scale is what is wrong.

Yet Jose Mourinho disagrees
Actually he doesn't. He said that the fee for Neymar is distorting the market for average players. Lukaku is not average.

He was basically referring to the likes of Sigurdsson.

An opinion I still disagree with. There's no way Swansea kept lumping more money because PSG spent 200m on Neymar. The inflation was down to the TV money and nothing more but the point he made was valid in that the market has become dangerous now to operate in. 2 or 3 bad signings and that is over 100m gone.

He said that if he’d tried to sign Lukaku after the Neymar deal then he would have expected to pay a lot more.

With regards to Siggurdson, Swansea set the price and we met it. He was their asset so they chose what they want, it’s up to us to pony up m

Lukaku was worth 90m in the summer, about 150m in Aug/ Sep and about 60m now,if you listen to some at Utd.
Maybe we didn't do so badly after all.

I think that was just him trying to claim what a good deal it.

However it still wasn't the Neymar deal. Prices had been rising all summer. Neymar's deal was just the headliner. Did the sale of Bale or Ronaldo inflate the market? No so why do you think Neymar would.
