You said we should have kept them for the remainder of their contracts, make your mind up.

If we kept Lukaku against his will this season, who knows that we'd have got out of him? Also if we did that, then if I was his agent, I'd have said OK, then in that case we'll run his contract out, and we'll sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in the following Jan, and we'd have got nothing for him.

Dead easy to pontificate about keeping players who want away and are hugely valuable assets.

Easy to envisage him walking for £40m this January after sulking his arse off for half a season.

Selling him was the only option. We got a fantastic deal for him - people looking at Neymar and Mbappe and thinking we somehow got short-changed are deluding themselves; those players were on proper elite teams' radar; there's a reason PSG didn't even look at the 'bargain priced' Lukaku.

Is that a joke? TV money, Lukaku, Cleverly, Deulofeu etc

We will see this January because we need signings and don't really have anyone we can sell.

I am clinging on that no one in their right mind would allow Koeman to buy Giroud, Bolasie and Sigurdsson if we are sell to buy. 3 players all either close to 30 or over 30 who would have cost 100m in total.

I was never in favour of Koeman's signings, in my book all too old as you point out, for includes Rooney. As for January gotta wait to see who our manager will be but one thing for sure we need a sub 30year CB.

I said we would be within our rights to do that. They have no legal right to terminate a contract they agreed to.

It’s WC season, I’m sure we would have got a lot out of him. As I said earlier, had we of invested and kept the players we might now have been looking at being in the top 4.

You think they’d sit on it for 2 years? We could have sold him next year with still a season to run on his deal.

We sold Lukaku at the beginning of the window, before the market went crazy. Mourinho even said that Lukaku would have been more expensive later on in the window, so we’ve already lost out.

That was Moyes’ bad management by putting him in that position. He should have been dropped to the bench whilst the saga was ongoing, see: Liverpool, Arsenal and Southampton for how this is done.
The RS will sell Coutinho in either Jan or next summer, see Suarez for details.

Arsenal? A cracking example them like, watching 2 players who would have been worth at least £130m the pair, running down their contracts and free to sign deals with foreign sides in 2 months time...

Soton? Is this the same Soton who've sold their best players every season, mostly to the RS? VvD has hardly been busting a gut since they brought him back in from the cold and will almost certainly join the RS in either Jan or May.

We sold 2 players who wanted away and got great money for them, it happens, it's football, and every club has their place in the pyramid and we're no exception.

More important than a striker and when Niasse is leading the line that is saying something.

Kenny improved in the 2nd half against Watford so hopefully with Unsworth he will improve further plus Coleman is back. I thought right back was our biggest problem area in the summer but now it's probably CB

What about LB, any thoughts?

Manchester Utd are an elite club with an elite manager.

The reason no one else was in for him apart from Chelsea are various but in PSG's case they had spent a small fortune in the summer already and had to word the Mbappe deal in a specific way to avoid FFP

Lukaku signed for United before Neymar went to PSG. They were not interested. Neither were Real Madrid, Barcelona - the proper elite clubs in world football right now. Note the words 'right now', because United aren't in that club. Only the B-tier that are United and Chelsea were interested because the A-tier wouldn't be possible. Hence why a fringe player at Real Madrid and Lukaku ended up at them. Whereas PSG elevated themselves with Neymar and Mbappe to elite status, because they are genuine elite players.

We had to milk United dry whilst the fee was that high for Lukaku and they were desperate due to losing Ibrahimovic. Selling him was a no brainer.
