Ronald Koeman discussion

His team selection against lyon will be a key indicator of whether he is fit to be manager or not i think. He has said me need a win given our early europa failures , but I have a feeling he will go ahead and play his usual defensive style of 2 holding mids, and 2 number 10s and therefore minimise number of pacey players in the team.

I think he is a too stubborn to be a top manager.

One good thing is that he is clearly feeling the pressure now and is not enjoying it at all. Hopefully he learns from this and tones it down with his shouty, public criticism 'tough love' approach with the players- who I think are playing poorly partly to try and make sure he is fired sooner rather than later..
I think you've made your point mate

Yes, the smugness seems to have dissipated somewhat.

Happen he has had a wake up call and he might buckle down and concentrate on the job he is very privilieged to have now rather than dream his pie in the sky notions of the Camp Nou.

You can say that again

while I agree with the bolded to a point, that's literally the reason almost every player we bought from the Premier League. So they WOULDN'T have to "settle in".

Coupled with the absolute lack of any type of "tactics", I think he's lost. He bought a ton of players without any thought to "how am I going to play them?"
I think he did and does have a vision of how the team should play together, the problem is the players have to get used to each other within the team. They have to get used to the abilities and habits of their new team mates. When there are so many new faces this is always a difficult and hazardous time.
Any new manager would immediately face the same difficulties.

I still reckon the board will give him at least two more months to sort this out. He is their man and they must have allowed for the fact that the influx of new players could mean a difficult start to the second season.
The time frame he and the board seem to have agreed means they are expecting success to come in third season, so I think they will continue to back their man a fair bit longer.
Ultimately this could well become a test of nerves between disgruntled fans and board who still believe they have the right man.

So like Martinez?

To me that suggests the board have absolutely no clue on this side of things if they gave an underperforming manager this amount of time. Especially when the last one was given similar amounts and it led to nothing anyway.

One point I would like to make , not directly to you as it's a different point. Would Chelsea for example be satisfied with the season so far? Would they continue to back conte if the team with big money spent were performing so badly? Or would they get rid because the job isn't good enough?

I mean they have done it a few times in the past mid season and still came away with a trophy to show for it every time, mainly because they actually want to be successful

Not looking forward to tonight. There's a sense of inevitability about his departure that wasn't quite there with Martinez, and I'm beginning to think it may well just be the best thing to rip off the plaster.

I agree mate, shut yer eyes and take a load of hair with it, but it must go as it's not helping to stem the bleeding and pain nor hide the ugliness of the wound that is now turning sceptic.

Rooney upfront wont work in zillions years. NEVER. So i think hes gone by Christmas.

Come now TJ, how many games did we score 3 or more goals in in the 2nd half of the season at home? He made goodison enjoyable again and at the very, very least we were beating teams we should be beating.

I’m no Koeman fan, mate. Didn’t want him here in the first place but he must be given a fair amount of time and I don’t think we’re at the yet were we should sack him.

Just give the guy a chance to turn it around, mate. No guarantees he will but my point is there was enough there last season to suggest we could kick on.

I can't think of any we did score 3 tbh. I'm not saying sack him, I just think his whole tenure has been dull as dish water. I was happy with the solidity he brought back, but now that's gone, there's no positives atm.
