Ronald Koeman discussion

I'm afraid if you think a Billionaire businessman hasn't got a clause in his managers contract that avoids paying him significant sums for perceived failure you're mighty mistaken. After Bobby relieving him of £10M-12M big ones it ain't happening again.

You would like to think so but somehow I doubt it.

Moshiri became obsessed with signing Koeman, for reasons best known only to himself, to the point he just chucked money at both Koeman and at Saints by way of compensation.

Such was Moshiri’s desperation to sign a man he bracketed with Pep, Jose and Klopp in a bizarre statement about the “world’s best managers congregating in the North West” I believe Koeman was able to practically write his own contract and I have little doubt it will include the big pay out.

:(

I’ve said a few times, the rest of this month will be the real test of his mettle. Backs against the wall, chips are down with 3 big games to turn things round. If we lose the next 3, namely the 2 cup games then yes I think he’ll have to go.
Fair does. The "problem" I have with that is that you are gambling with the two cups. It's one and done with the Carling, kind of the same with the Europa.

The odd thing is that if we could somehow get a win tomorrow night, and apparently they have half a team out injured, we are back in the driving seat to at least qualify from the group as runner up.

We live in hope ;)

The way we are playing I really don’t see anything other than 3 defeats in next 3 games unless there is some massive change that again I can’t see coming... we will then have the FA cup and trying to improve our league place to keep us going for the rest of the season .. wow ! Great time to be a blue ... need this manager gone !

People can slate Martinez all they want, but it definitely wasn't worse than this. At least our games had something happening and we actually did something.record points total, two semis (should have been a final really, then who knows what). We won at old Trafford and well, technically won at Stamford bridge and had an enjoyable Europa run until the last game.

Under koeman we've had 1 highlight, that 1 home game vs city. Nothing else has been enjoyable/entertaining. I've been bored by a lot of the wins, it must be said.

Koeman needs to go, no doubt about it. But this revisionist rubbish about Martinez has to stop. He was absolutely dire.

May not be that straight forward. I wonder if it might trundle on for a while yet. Not win any of next 4, that takes us into Nov then yes he's gone. But combination of win tomorrow or draw Sunday? Beat Leicester? I know not likely, but will he then get another month, another 4 games? I'm Just not sure how quickly it will be done.

Yeah defo, but at the same time binning him off now doesn’t guarantee victory in either game. At least if we do go out of both you can say the manager was given a fair go. And hey, you never know we might even win!!!!!

I have a funny feeling we will beat Arsenal.

When they came to town last season there was a similar sense of despair taking root amongst us.

We were having our first experience of the annual Koeman Autumn Slump which had reached its nadir at Chelsea and we lost at Watford the game befire Arsenal.

No one could see us winning.....especially when they took the lead :(

Arsenal themselves are on a bit of a downer now after Watford last week so you just never know.

He looked to be under massive pressure today in the pressy. Could see it all over his unshaven face and his mannerisms. Don't like to see anyone being effected like that regardless of how much money they are on and how poor they have been. This Lyon game is a massive must win game to keep our Europe hopes alive and i for one am getting behind the manager and the team for it. Hopefully it might be a turning point. Trying my best to be optimistic and positive anyway as difficult as that might be. ;)

I think he is safe for a while yet

I honestly don't think he is. There's too much stirring amongst the faithful to go unnoticed. A bad defeat tonight should signal the end. Obviously hope we don't lose of course. But I think he's hanging on for dear life. Had Moshiri and Kenwright out to pay him a visit this week. Doesn't happen too often I bet. He's giving it all the "I've got the full backing of the board" lark, which is a sure fire bet that he's almost out of the door.

I still reckon the board will give him at least two more months to sort this out. He is their man and they must have allowed for the fact that the influx of new players could mean a difficult start to the second season.
The time frame he and the board seem to have agreed means they are expecting success to come in third season, so I think they will continue to back their man a fair bit longer.
Ultimately this could well become a test of nerves between disgruntled fans and board who still believe they have the right man.

while I agree with the bolded to a point, that's literally the reason almost every player we bought from the Premier League. So they WOULDN'T have to "settle in".

Coupled with the absolute lack of any type of "tactics", I think he's lost. He bought a ton of players without any thought to "how am I going to play them?"

His team selection against lyon will be a key indicator of whether he is fit to be manager or not i think. He has said me need a win given our early europa failures , but I have a feeling he will go ahead and play his usual defensive style of 2 holding mids, and 2 number 10s and therefore minimise number of pacey players in the team.

I think he is a too stubborn to be a top manager.

One good thing is that he is clearly feeling the pressure now and is not enjoying it at all. Hopefully he learns from this and tones it down with his shouty, public criticism 'tough love' approach with the players- who I think are playing poorly partly to try and make sure he is fired sooner rather than later..
