Perhaps is the big word here isn't it. You are of course quite right that we might have sacked Kendall, appointed some no mark who we thought would be the next big thing, got relegated and never come back. On the other hand, we may have sacked Kendall, coaxed Alex Ferguson from Aberdeen and become the most successful in the world over the next 20 years. We'll never know.

It is a different world now, and not because of 'society'. The days of being able to build a dynasty from the bottom have gone, it's just not possible anymore because the players won't stay around while you do it. Rooney was supposed to be the one who catapulted us forward but he left as soon as he could, then we looked on the verge of something under Moyes but Lescott jumped ship, then Pienaar, Arteta and then Fellaini. We never got to where we were aiming. Fast forward 10 years and the same happens again, one minute we're 5th with Barkley, Lukaku, Stones and Deulofeu looking like they're the future, the next minute they've all buggered off and we're back at square one. Progress has to be quicker now, treading water for 3 years means your best players aren't there anymore - do we take the chance that our best hopes for the future end up playing their football elsewhere because they got bored of waiting for us to do something, or do we roll the dice and try to be ambitious?

In truth, unless we get a Sheikh as Man City did we will never really be competing for honours again. We may get lucky in one of the cups and finish in the top 10, but that is really the scale of our ambitions for now I guess.

It took City a ridiculous amount of money until they won their first league. In summary, it ain't happening.

So, regardless of what we do now with Koeman, it won't make a massive difference in the great scheme of things, it might just mean we win a few more football matches and get us out of the rut we are in at present. Which could also easily change overnight with Koeman as well by the way, it's just whatever takes your fancy.

Atalanta was the one for me too. Up to then I thought we could turn it around and it was maybe a case of players bedding in. But the manner of that collapse set alarm bells ringing and we've seen zero fight shows since (save for 20 mins against Burnley until another collapse).

Atalanta was the same as Martinez's Anfield moment for me, the point of no return. We're treading water right now waiting for the inevitable.

We agree, but Martinez’ anfield loss was blighted by key injuries (as we so often suffer before that game). Koeman has spent more money than any Everton manager could dream of. Coleman aside, we had no key injuries. The man has spent £200 million & we're watching the least offensive football since Walter Smith.

The squad is a horrific, lopsided mess and instead of addressing it properly in the summer we chased an attacking midfielder for 6 weeks. He has no one to blame but himself and Steve Walsh.

And the board. Obviously koemans tactics team selections etc are bizzare but the board are and always will be the hinderance to why we don't go anywere.

Exactly...or have more trust in the wingers we already had...Del,Lennon,even Mirallas(with his shiny new,pointless, contract),and use some of the 'various number 10s' money to buy at least a working striker....although I'm sure that money isn't the problem. All we can do is speculate.

What is really concerning is that you couldn't pass it off as an injury crisis. All of our better players (Pickford, Keane, Rooney, Schneiderlin, Baines) are available - the only one who isn't is Coleman. So Cowhead has the options, he just isn't using them very well. Worrying.

In the grand scheme of things, yes, but the issue of the state of the squad lies at the feet of Koeman and Walsh. The fact is, we ignored every massive hole in the squad while we pursued one player for a third of the window, that is negligence on the part of the recruitment team.

What is the issue with klassen?

How many consecutive games has he played in his best position for us to get up to speed in the league? Did people think he could move leagues and be brilliant from the get go? He isn't even in the team and as a sub he isn't going to make a huge difference when everyone else is a mess on the pitch

I don't know if you're a matchgoing fan, but I am, and I can assure you that 'just winning a few more matches' would very much take my fancy. It is, after all, kind of the point of the game, and makes my trips to the ground a tad more bearable.

While I agree that you need money to compete, we - supposedly - have it now. As I was saying, we looked like we were very close to a breakthrough just 3 years ago but then it turned out that our manager wasn't very good. With a good manager, that breakthrough is undoubtedly possible, but I don't see it happening under Koeman.

I think you are missing the fact that Bolassie, who was RKs purchase to inject pace and be his 'out ball', was badly injured ...a major disaster for RK,probably more than some realise. RK did not trust any of our other wingers in the same way as his purchase. THe nearest he has got is the young guy from Split. I think RK always wanted to be solid middle and back, with speedy counters up top, but hasn't yet got the right personell.

I mean, we got A LOT better after Bolasie got injured last year, but ok that's football.

I really hope not but seen nothing from the way he's motivating the team to suggest lessons are being learned.
