2017/18 Ross Barkley

Indeed, Stu.

These are worrying times for those of us whom thought Moshiri had ushered in a new paradigm :(
There are definite signs that not getting a fee for Barkley has prevented us bringing in a forward mate. However, we've just paid out £10m on a position that Koeman didn't consider to be an immediate need, plus an amount, currently unknown, on an 18yo for our development squad (on top of about £10m already paid out on young players). We're turning away loan deals for Kev/Robles/Lennon/Niasse that would all bring in money and reduce our wage bill significantly. They're not signs that we are hard up for cash.

I may well be proven wrong, but for the moment I'm going to give the club the benefit of the doubt and accept that our inability to bring in a much needed decent striker is down to a combination of inefficiency on our part, and the most suitable players not being available. We aren't the only club not to bring in what we need this window, nor the biggest for that matter.

Still desperately disappointing end to the window though.

Ross though. Made up it looks like he isn't leaving this window, and will be more made up if he signs that new 'kin contract.

Big question though is did he reject it to sign the contract or does he want a free next year.

If he doesn't sign the contract tomorrow then I'd put him on gardening leave for the season.
