2017/18 Ross Barkley

The thing with Ross is, I think there is a lack of maturity there. I don't think he's fully grasped yet that Koeman is hard on him because he cares about him, and because he knows he's worth expecting more from and not just binning off. It's not picking on him (as I feel Ross frames it) but Koeman's way of showing you he thinks you're capable.

In some defence of Ross, other managers may have adopted a different style on seeing Barkley doesn't respond well to the criticism. Yet I don't think Koeman massively likes changing his approach (which works well with lots of players) and nor do I think he believes Barkley is worthwhile talent to justify him changing his approach. This is a manager who thought nothing of upsetting Mane and Tadic at Southampton only to get them back into the fold as improved players.

The end result of having more players to pick from is that Koeman is unlikely to pick out Barkley for praise, criticism or comment. Barkley will probably misunderstand this as being better than last season, which of course it won't be but for the sake of rebuilding a relationship will probably not do any harm.

I also think Barkley will be far better suited being one of many good players, as opposed to the lad who everything is expected of. I don't think he thrives under that pressure. As Gerrard rightly said, if you put better players around Barkley you will se the best of him and it is all set up for him this season if he stays to up his game. Also with the emergence of Davies and return of Rooney the local hero expectation will be off his shoulders which again will help.

Of course this could be a ruse to just get Spurs, but they don't seem interested currently. If his plan is to hold out for a free thats a really poor thing to do and I hope that's not the case. Anyway we live in hope, if he's here until January there's every chance he may have a change of heart and pen his long term future to the club.

..because he's going to Arsenal.

Chelsea want centre mids and wingers to play as wing backs as back up to the likes of Moses, that is why theyre being turned down

Adam's not that quick. I already suggested the little sod might screw us over - which is worse than being given the idea by that Kopite bell.

I'll be really shocked if it's to sign a new deal to be honest! Suspect it's to try and get the Spurs deal done. Hope he's staying (beyond January/next summer) though
