You have to wonder if we were hoping to have sold off more players by now, particularly Barkley and McCarthy in order to fund a striker purchase. If the manager and Walsh knew all along that we'd have to sell to buy, then their use of the budget afforded to them will have to be questioned. Did we really need both Sigurddson and Klaasen for those prices? Especially given we had to replace Lukaku. All the talk when we sold him was of spreading the goals around. No one looks likely to slot consistently right now except Rooney. It's not good enough. Personnel wise we have some good players, but there are teams below us who function better as an attacking unit. Not to mention those above us.
However if Koeman was under the impression that money was no issue and we'd have plenty left for a striker, then serious questions need to be asked of our board. Whatever way you spin it, even if we do get someone in today, we've handled this appallingly.
