The club have handled this - we may never find out why and what reason he is leaving us for, and why was his contract left till the last year?

A recent article suggested he had no intention of going until he ran into big problems with Liverpool's gangster element. Was it because he goosed some head honcho's missus? Not sure, the article hinted at that but did not specifically state that.
Anyway, suddenly Ross gets the warning 'get out of town or else'. The article didn't actually call Ross as thick as a tyre sandwich, but again, the suggestions toward his lack of mental acuity were hinted.
Apparently the gangsters have given Ross til the transfer window slams shut to get out of town.

The contract we offered, whilst a great wage, did not include a release clause of circa £70m that his agent wanted in it. And we would never have included one in it at that level.

Because Lukaku made it clear he wanted out the day he joined the club Joey. We offered him a new deal to ensure that when he did leave we'd make a much bigger profit. The club didn't foresee the local lad and supposed Evertonian screwing us over so they felt no need to act like he would and prepare for the worst. Furthermore we offered him a new deal with 18 mounths on his current contract anyway.

The article certainly lent a very heavy air to his predicament. Mind you, it was a story in the paper so quite possibly it was fake news; everything else is these days.
But one thing they did hint at ( which we can pretty much confirm), Ross ain't the sharpest knife in the drawer.
