Sigurdsson Alternatives

I just think 'work rate' with Davies. Every team must have one. No shame in that.
just thinking the same In terms of
Work rate, Siggurdsson ran the most out of every player in the prem last season, I can't see Koeman going for a Mata or a Fabregas (as some have mentioned) it's just not what he's trying to do imo.

Siggurdson is just not good enough to spend that much considering the limited resale on a player of his age.

We are lacking a special player who can produce something out of nothing in open play. I would go for Mahrez if we are going to spend 40-50 on a playmaker

You didn't just say Barkley is better than Asensio and Ceballos did you?
He did
He actually did
I hope ROSS stays but we need a No10
Someone to pull the strings and load the bullets for the forwards
Mata or Fabregas in a dream world but I'll leave it to Walsh and Koeman to decide
They know a little bit about football

OK, quite a leftfield shout: I've got a feeling that Sunderland's Wahbi Khazri could become this year's Gana Gueye success story if we went in and picked him up. Since he left Bordeaux 18 months ago he hasn't been able to build on his reputation as one of the most creative wingers in the French league, but then again he's been playing in a really bad side and also seems to have fallen out badly with Moyes and hence become a peripheral figure at Sunderland. Compared to the latest flavour of the month players from the weaker continental leagues Khazri has already made the move to the Premier League and been confronted with the speed and the physicality, which to some extent could weigh up the fact that the player's been on a downward trajectory since he arrived in England.

Obviously the club has the money to aim higher than scrambling among benched outcast from relegated sides. But if we look beyond Sigurdsson, Mahrez and Lanzini there isn't a lot of established creative quality in the sides below us. Signing fringe players from CL clubs has never succeded, and bringing in emerging talent from abroad in this position comes with a lot of risk factors.

Checked in on a Sunderland fan forum, several posters rating Khazri as their best player now that Defoe is gone. Not saying much I know, but still ... The next Pienaar, anyone? :)

I would take Khazri. But just as a squad player for the right price.

Seriously, I don't think there is a better realistic option for us than Sigurdsson. Sign him, keep Barkley should be the first scenario, even for that type money like 50M. Mahrez, no chance he would come here. Other names mentioned here are either even more unrealistic or are way worse options than Gylfi. Just sign Gylfi, whatever is the price.
