Ross Barkley

Cos it's probably Koeman he doesn't get on with

So because Barkley doesn't like being criticised by his boss, the boss is to blame...Mirallas signed a new deal and gets far less game time than RB as well as being told when he needs to up his game...Barkley has thrown the baby out with the bath water on this one and its a pity...good contract, healthy competition fighting for his place which would be good for him...he's not automatic for the national team because there are more consistent players ahead of him regardless of talent, nothing to do with game time...talent means nothing if it isn't realised...I wish him well anyway, wish he was staying and fighting for it but if he hasn't that character(which I thought he did, leg break etc and coz he said so) then maybe we are better off without

My kopite mate really rates Barkley's talent. However he asked me this week why hasn't he 'kicked on' with his game, as he seems to have stagnated in recent seasons. I like many fans couldn't really answer that one, Martinez over indulged him and koeman has been the opposite, very critical of him. I guess the answer to get the best out of him lies somewhere in between. Because there is no doubting he is a very talented player.

We have no idea what happens behind the scenes. But it's clearly enough for him to gamble his career at his boyhood club to reject a new bumper deal to look at pastures new. Rooney and Moyes had huge bust ups for eg.

As for Kev, that feller is at the point where he's got about 3 years left in his legs, he's on a good wage. He'll be happy just being a bit part player. Won't fight for a place. He's content.

He hasn't stagnated though. The last 2 seasons have been his best in terms of end product (consistent) and he's a matured player.

He's stagnated in terms of banging 20 yarders in and running the length of the pitch past teams to score every game.

Fancy if he had consistent performances in a season? He'd be up there with the best players in the league. I'd bet a lot of money he'll have at least one of them in his career

One major point is Barkley told Koeman he wants to play Champions league, obviously he doesn't feel we'll get there, obviously he feels he's better than where we are but for all his qualities I saw him ruin attacks many times when he's in such a key position...he's worthy of the level we are at and no more...he's gambling his career at his boyhood club by his own choice, this is the 3rd manager he's had as senior, if he loved the club that much he'd stick it out...I reckon, and it's all speculation of course, that he just can't handle criticism very well and RK is far from an arm round the shoulder type guy...but he wants to keep him and he is the boss whether there is a local lad in the club or not...if Barkley stuck with it and learned what he could and worked with the changes then he might be glad in the end...either we get the success or the manager will be gone, the buck stops with RK in the end...
editing for Kev comment :) He has a world cup next year too and wants to be in that squad as it is his last chance, if you think he's happy to bench warm and pick up a wage then you must not have noticed how frustrated he gets when not playing, getting a couple of min at the end etc...he could easily move and be a key player elsewhere...maybe he just more mature and can take a rollicking from his boss when he deserves one

Barkley has had some flashes of brilliance and a fair bit of meh.
I would like him to stay, but that doesn't feel like happening now.
Can't blame the club. They were clear about what they intended to do. We can't hang around while other clubs sign our targets whilst wondering why Ross hasn't signed. Could have waited all summer and then he decides to move on Spurs.
He will fail there and he will want to return aka Pienar. Just make sure we screw enough out of Spurs to be able to bring him home.

What has emerged this season that wasn't common knowledge before is that Barkley seems less than impressive as a person, nearly 24 and carrying on like a kid, running his contract down with his boyhood club, sulking about things.
He's not exactly Peter Reid is he?
Time for him to go

The plazzy-Evertonian that is Ross Barkley has his perfect excuse for defecting from Everton; Blame the manager. The lad thinks he is better than he actually is and believes it is Everton holding him back. He believes his own hype. Ross Barkley; this wonderful footballer who has been dropped by every manager (club and country) he has played under.

Howard Kendall would've sold him by now.

Well, it's a number of factors really. The champions league shout is just the generic answer to any player who feels they can play at that level. There's some lesser players than him playing in it year on year to be fair. But he could also be disillusioned with where it's going. His mates Stones, Del, Rom all going/gone...could be he feels he needs to move on with them.

Kev signing a new deal is cos he's a good squad player. He won't be a key player next season. He won't get better and to me was a bigger problem for our lack of goals than say Ross (Ross had more responsibility imo). He won't go to a better side than us. He knows that as his window to move went 2 seasons ago.

If we had players who thought they were better than they were, we would've won something since 95 and a few more derbies.

Bit of self belief goes a long way.

Its funny you should mention Kendall, wasnt he the manager that left Everton to further his own career?

And yet you use him as an example for Ross to follow?

Because he's skilful but tactically unaware and shall remain that way unless he miraculously finds a position to suit him.

You are indeed correct mein frandel. It still doesn't change the fact that Barkley has ideas above his station and has no loyalty to the club that made him.
