Summer Transfer Window 2017

Sunderland had a higher wage bill last year than Atletico Madrid. English teams spend far more than any of Europe's top leagues, and are routinely useless competing against them. I doubt even half of the most expensive English transfers can be considered successful.

I'd rather we make a statement by winning something, or at the very least, finishing top four, which is far more likely to come from building a coherent, well-organised team than from "statement" splurging.

For all its statements, does "the world" even care enough to successfully name any Chinese league teams?
You would prefer to replace a world class striker in Lukaku with Carlos Bacca, as opposed to M'Bappe or Lacazette?
Which tells the football world we have high ambitions?

Sandro Ramirez can't say I've ever seen him live but his goal record last season and the fact he's only 21, 6m is a bargain and worth the risk

We spend 30m on a GK and the bed wetters are still crying about a statement signing.

lollollollollollollollollollollollollollollollollollollol
If you are implying me, then maybe we can put Pickford as a striker replacement for Lukaku since he is your statement signing.
The name calling at any opportunity in this place when anyone dares have an opposing opinion is getting tedious.

Oh here we go, the "opposing opinion" card has been played.

Yes mate, I suggested we play Pickford upfront as a statement to the whole world.

Here's one for you, try answering the original question, without name calling. Let's try then.

Which of the below makes a statement that we are serious contenders?

"You would prefer to replace a world class striker in Lukaku with Carlos Bacca, as opposed to M'Bappe or Lacazette?
Which tells the football world we have high ambitions?"

Who are we making a statement to by the way?

We couldnt attract Mbappe or Lacazette.

But you wont accept that.

Arsenal don't have Champion's League but are prepared to have a go at getting them.
We are supposed to have the funds. Why not try?
Losing Lukaku for Carlos Bacca types excite you and smells of ambition?
