West Brom plotting James McCarthy transfer from Everton to fill Darren Fletcher's shoes
The Baggies need a midfielder after their captain's move to Stoke and want Irishman also being eyed by Newcastle
West Brom have lined up
Everton midfielder
James McCarthy as a replacement for skipper Darren Fletcher.
The Baggies reluctantly admitted defeat in their
battle to keep Scotland international Fletcher despite offering the same terms as his new club, Stoke.
Boss Tony Pulis wants a more dynamic presence in his engine room and will move for Everton man McCarthy.
The Toffees want more than £15million for the Irishman, who has a big fan in chairman Bill Kenwright — but boss Ronald Koeman is happy for him to go.
Promoted Newcastle have also been keen but will not pay that fee, leaving Pulis in pole position.
