Everton Youth Teams Thread

Sometimes it's timing or they are blocked. We have a glut of midfielders. Honestly they can't all stay at Everton and play regular first team football.
Thats very true John. I would like to see us start producing a glut of goalscorers though, young and hungry. At least that way if we haven't got a place for them we could probably make a few quid on the back of them.

Strikers are the Golden Goose aren't they? Would love for Duffus or Sambalou to make the leap from prospect to "get him in the side now".

I meant with ourselves within the club, but now that you mention it then I would suppose that yes it is an extension of a wider issue with the game. All this money cannot be good for it at the end of the day. or can it?

I think it's a general issue in English football that I feel we have been less guilty of, largely due to lack of funds, but may be falling more into the trap of now. Hopefully we can continue to buck the trend.

Yeah. This 'Golden Generation' (hate that term) has been really fun to track, but I'd actually prefer a decent team that came 3/4/5th every year with a couple stand out players, than a team that wins it with a squad like ours, then the next group seems to be relatively quite a lot weaker. A steady supply of 1/2 players every couple years to the first team is much more desirable than lots all at once then none for 3/4 years.

Checkatrade League Trophy voted through to still include invited U23/21 teams

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39895497

A few changes to the rules
  • increased prize money (mainly PL funded)
  • Football league sides can choose any goalkeeper
  • FL sides only need four starting outfield players now to be "qualifying first-team players"
  • invited sides need to have six under-21 players in their starting line-up
  • Invited teams will also play all of their group matches away from home
  • flexibility of being able to schedule matches outside international windows
Last change hopefully helps us field stronger sides & may entice some of the PL clubs who did not play last season

...Kieran Dowell, PL2 Player of the Month for April. Great achievement for the lad with so many high profile footballers in that league. He's a class act, no doubt about that.
Strange for him to gain that award as 90% of the posts after each game on this forum are don't see it with dowell doesn't do enough not going to make it.

Unfortunately the majority of our fan base crave sweat & endeavour over class as has been shown with Barkley's treatment

We (those doubting Dowell's future here) don't crave sweat and endeavour over class we just wonder why it has to be one or the other. Eriksen runs more than most players whilst also having class.

..to be fair, I think posters (me included) have tried to analyse why he hasn't been in match day squads or taken on the mid-season break and concluded that he might not be an RK type. We know RK wants rounded footballers with a mix of real ability and hard work. Dowell has that lovely quality in his left foot that slides passes behind the back four as well as a hammer of a shot but the lad does go missing in games.
