Because he doesn't seem to have much quality....its weird but to me he does remind me of Naismith.

I know that's not the 'thinking mans' view but there you go....

He's a knack for scoring goals, like Naismith...but that's in Holland and to be he doesn't do much else other than show good leadership

Goal and assist every 3 games is good going. Reminds me more of Lampard than Naismith. Don't really understand the Naismith shouts he rarely scored.

We have one rather untested RB in the entire squad for next season plus Connolly if he's in the first team.

Depends on how many defenders you think we should sign?

Who would you keep + sell and how many would you sign?

Lets just stick with Jagielka as captain then. Baines and Coleman, maybe schneiderlin show more 'leadership' than the man currently wearing the arm band. Jagielka is a good player but damn weak as a leader.

You wouldn't want Davinson Sanchez? Hes top notch

Good defender but a loose cannon position wise, reminds me of david luiz mk1, just kept going box to box lol but if Koeman can grab him then we should do well to get him.

Getting in Sigurdsson would be a very very good bit of business. Can be the number 10 for the next 4/5 years, proven premier league quality. Ticks all the boxes in my opinion.

Barkley looks like he's off so he'd be a ready made (and better) replacement.

You just know Barkley will go to Spurs for instance and become a world beater though don't you... less pressure on him and all that.

Not quite sure how you think he'd be under less pressure if he were to go to Spurs? Big fee, playing in a team that the fans will expect another title challenge from? Or stay here where our fans are quite happy to finish 7th this season? I know which option brings the most pressure. Unless it's our fans who put too much pressure on the poor lad. At times, especially earlier this season, the treatment from the stands wasn't too good, in which case, you can see why he wouldn't sign a new contract.

Contract extensions mean jack these days.

True but these were Kongolo's comments when he signed:

‘I’m very pleased to be extending my stay at Feyenoord,’ said Kongolo, who joined the club as an F pupil. ‘I’m thankful to Feyenoord for having brought my through, for having given me my debut five years ago and for expressing their confidence in me again with this new contract.’

Money obviously talks - especially when speaking to Dutch teams as they always have an abundance of playerse coming through - i just think this one may be unlikely. Would love to see it happen and the Koeman Feyenoord link will always help too

It's the latter, mate. He gets scrutinised from the stands any time he does anything wrong. You can see how as a fan of our club that he is it may be appealing to leave and support the club again. Can't be much fun getting booed by the fans you used to sit alongside.

Colours nailed to the mast re Sigurdsson - I don't think he's that good

As has been mentioned before, his assists stats look good because he's so good at set pieces, but he doesn't create much from open play. I mentioned earlier this season on one of the threads that he apparently had less than 10 assists from open play in his entire PL career before this season (I haven't been able to verify that).

He's not a bad player, but we're essentially looking for someone in Barkley's role - I don't think he's enough of an upgrade to be falling over ourselves to spend a fortune on. I just don't think he adds all that much from open play over what we have.

CB's: Williams (keep), RFM (keep), Jags (sell), Holgate (keep and purely at CB next season), Galloway (undecided) - Need to add 2 more that will be first choice with Williams, RFM and Holgate rotating out.

LB's: Baines (keep), Garbutt (evaluate pre-season) - Need a LB that will either push Baines to play better or just flat out replace him straight away.

RB's: Coleman (keep), Kenny (keep) - Kenny looked okay but has only played ~90 mins of PL football so we can't have solely him till whenever Coleman returns and we don't yet know how he'll return. Need a RB in that's equal or better than Seamus to start.

Players we've been linked with I like and seem attainable: Keane, Gibson, Tierney, Trippier, Tete, Sanchez (last summer), Robertson (undecided).

Dreamland? Throw a pot of gold at Benjamin Mendy. I also really rate Paul Baysse but he's injury prone.

Would really enjoy having Klaasen here - was watching him last night and I really think he could work really well under Koeman's style of play. He was seamlessly playing number 8 and number 10 in transitions last night. I dont think Klaasen would be the answer to our creativity problems and is not going to be our central number 10 - but i think playing alongside Ross or Gylfi (why on earth are people calling him Siggy when he already has a great name in GYLFI is beyond me) where he can replicate his versatility and arriving late in the box would be a real asset for us and take some of the burden off our number 10.

Not talking about clubs that Chelsea wouldn't have sold too mate, because ultimately they by the nature of that wouldn't be in competition for the player, I'm talking more a player we have beaten out a team to sign.

besides the likes of West Broms etc - we haven't signed anyone who had a 'better option' available to them.

That needs to change - even if it means breaking wage structure or paying over the odds, else we feed from scraps to all intents, just at the top of the rest of the league pecking order wise (at best)

I think this will be the acid test to say we have arrived. That moment may never come, but being able to go head to head with another side in the top 7 and beat them to a player would be very significant.

Spot on. Takes an excellent set piece. However he isn't that good in open play. In no way an upgrade on Barkley. We can do much better.
