ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

not a cat in hell's chance mate, i really would stop worrying about them in this way, they've meandered for about two months now, the premier league is getting to an all time low in terms of quality and yet they still can't beat some truly woeful teams, leicester did brilliantly to get where they got to, but none of the other teams from the prem even got a sniff, this liverpool team is miles worse than any of this year's participants, there's no winning mentality at all there now, they've turned into annual bottlers, they've bottled it this season in terms of not just the league, but champions league, if they do qualify it's mainly because of how atrocious united and arsenal have been (and city actually) and us in a season of transition.

Don't think they have bottled it at all. What's happened is their squad is very thin and injuries to one or two first teamers has seen a nosedive in the performances as the backup is atrocious. They were top at Christmas as they had suffered few injuries. The speed of their play was fast. Since then Mane went to the African cup in January, while Coutinho, Lallana and Henderson have been out for over a month each (with Mane also out since March). When your backup is Lucas then you know you are lacking in depth. Since he has come in their games have been at snails pace. On one ocassion he took eight touches yesterday as he doddered around midfield (the other yard dog Can then took six touches) which had Carragher yapping in commentary about how slow and sluggish the midfield is. Lucas is the worst midfielder in the league that I've seen.

Do you remember when he was injured and he was a combination of Makele and Lampard?

Remember when the worst midfielder in the league and sluggish slow Can dominated our midfield in the Derby?

Our team under martinez may have actually finished this season 3rd, it really has been that poor in quality, that's why i'm not getting too happy on what koeman has done this season, i'm only really happy about the foundations we've laid and the startings of the "project". I think liverpool will be down in 7th/8th next season, unless they do some really good transfer work.

I thought the same in 05, that was an awful team, crap keeper, no decent striker upfront, absolutely nothing on the flanks, and they won it. You can't write them off, they are the devils team. European teams turn up at Anfield like tourists who feel like they're being disrespectful if they don't sing YNWA and give them the game. 2 legged ties in Europe with the second leg at Anfield are what that lot live for. I'm just hoping for a solid group with a Bayern Barca or Juve Barca combo and them crashing out in the group stages or last 16 at best. If they get to the quarters and the UEFA diktat of all second legs must be at Anfield comes into play then they'd fancy themselves v anyone.

think it's way too early to worry mate, they've not even finished 4th yet, then they'd have to win a qualifier, plenty of obstacles for a team who can only play one way on a tiny squad. Their team in 05 was pretty crap, especially compared to all the big guns in europe, but they had a couple of world class players and they did used to win things too, this group isn't comparable, not by a long shot.

rodgers is proving at celtic that he's definitely better than klopp and they should have kept hold of him, imo. With the standard of teams klopp has lost to this season, i don't think there's any chance he would have done the treble and gone unbeaten, every game would be a small one for them which is what he's struggled with this season.

Total Wham all that, trouble is you're right all the way down the line...They sold their red shankly souls in Dec 1969 and have been reaping the benefits ever since.

Any other season they would have been punished? If they did get 3 more points, they'd be on 73pts. 8 of the last 10 seasons, that would be enough for top 4. So, not quite sure about them being punished any other season. Unfortunately, the season isn't just about the last 5,6 or 7 games, its about 38 games and, if they get 73 points and finish top 4, you have to say they deserve it.
Of course if they finish top 4 they deserve it, but none of that makes what I said wrong, does it? If a team stumbles badly in the run in they pay the price if they have competition around them. The only reason they haven't is that United and Arsenal are within grabbing distance but each face different obstacles - a pile up of fixtures/injuries and a managerial crisis.

RS need to be handed their ass on a plate in Group stages.. Juventus (CL winners), Barca would be a good un - as would Real Madrid (CL winners) and Monaco or PSG.. something like that would be just fine.
