Summer Transfer Window 2017

This summer will be a massive one.

Fair few blues don't want a repeat of last summer and rather than try for a certain level of player like we did last summer, want us to go the level below and get the deals done which are more realistic.

Thing is though, those realistic signings so to speak won't exactly be a difference maker, yeah we may push on and be able to kind of maintain are current position whilst competing in Europe and the cups etc, but to really push on and take that next step we need to take a risk, pay whats needed and sell the club better than we currently have done to players and agents.

Last Summer we had a manager arriving a bit late, then all the uncertainty and waiting for the DoF to come in, and then the problems with bedding both in and getting them on the same page as each other (getting to know each others plans etc)

That valid excuse isn't their anymore, whilst not exactly busting down doors, we have stopped the decline and have improved significantly this season, we will have EL footy to offer players also, so in theory we are an easier sell to players now

We have shifted on or are in the process of getting rid of nearly all the clubs 'dead wood' which creates a lot of room in the squad for incoming players - it frees up wages, and in prospective sales we could raise upwards of 80m+ without the sale of any essential first team players. The manager has shown he is willing to play younger players (which was a valid concern initially against him) which should hopefully make a difference in attracting any talented younger players looking for that next step up.

Basically the squad is needing of those 'realistic' signings to strengthen us and fill some problem areas (and give us a plan B in games), but not a shadow of a doubt we need to get in 2-3 players that everyone in the media etc consider beyond are reach

People are overlooking the need for realistic, strong signings. Look at the benches of the teams above us and compare them to ours, and quickly you see how badly we need a squad a very good players.

We've got rid of and are continuing to weed out all the bang average and dross in our squad, and as you say, I'd rather replace them with very good players rather than shoot for 'top' players and miss like we did last year. The top players can come in once the depth is sorted.

The likes of Rooney, Sigurdsson, Keane, Gibson, whoever, would make us so much stronger. Then if we do pluck a worldie out it's a bonus.

Question becomes - do you buy for the squad, or do you buy for the first 11 and the solid players you previously had drop down to squad players mate.

You buy for the squad, then when you eventually make that step to buy in top players, your left with a huge bloated squad yet again and the bought in squad players wont be of the level required if that makes sense

Ideally, you buy a couple of top players in certain positions, say a top cb and a solid one, Williams then moves to a squad player, same if you bought a starting left back, Baines goes down to a rotation/squad option (like we have seen with Barry this season effectively), United under Ferguson where absolute masters of doing this, they'd buy in a position they where actually decent already in and strengthen the starting and depth by doing so, in others theyd buy in - sell the starter and promote a kid up, and balanced doing so brilliantly tbf.

It's a fair question, and I suppose it depends on how highly you rate our current XI vs say, the best players at other teams in our league. I'd always be buying with the intention of improving the first XI, and seeing some of our current XI drop down to the bench. With perhaps the exception of Rooney who id consider rotation and a signing for more than just his current ability on the pitch.

For me, Sigurdsson > Mirallas, the latter drops to the bench. Keane > Williams, and so on and so forth.

Effectively we need to try do both, the solid reliable quality will give you a consistency needed over a season, the absolute top level players will win you the big games

In my opinion, we are 7th by a mile in front of the teams below.

Signing squad players or players who would improve us a bit will solidify 7th and possibly get 5th or 6th if one or two teams have bad seasons

To get the top 4 we need 3 more star players.

Watched Leverkusen get pumped at home to Schalke this morning. Couldn't say I was too impressed by Leno.

Big mistake mate. You're not supposed to watch the players in a full game. Instead you have to watch YouTube clips and highlight reels and then come on here and pretend you are in possession of some sort of higher form of knowledge. Best also to change your opinion at any time, especially when a player you've been hyping up for the last few weeks has a duff game on the big stage.

If we could get one of Koulibaly or VVD we'd straight away be a much better side.

Rooney looks more or less a done deal.

If Rom goes then you'd expect us to go for someone like Lacazette who doesn't seem to be on the same level but scores goals.

After how poor our general business was last summer and being unable to tie up deals (even Arnautovic turned us down ffs, how could he prefer to stay at Stoke?), we need a couple of statement signings.

It'll be interesting to see which of the young lads get brought into the squad with Europa next season and Koeman saying he prefers to use youngsters than buy a stack of extra players for it.

He's supposed to be a good player but you never know how he'd perform in the PL. I'd take a Hart with a point to prove over him any day.

We need to up the wage offers in the summer. Big time. As mentioned above - we couldn't even attract the likes of Aunotivic last year.
